Honda Japan won't have jack. The concept of car preservation doesn't really exist on a big scale in Japan, NOS parts are hen's teeth, they import their bits back from the USA and Aus! Not sure if the bushes are identical to the Mk2 Civic hatch or if the saloon has different suspension...

I had the same rot, but I didn't fix is properly and left the suspension in place.

Glad to see this one getting some (more) attention, the rubbery stone chip stuff is probably gravitex, obviously not designed to be used over rust....

In place for now...

I banger raced my first Acclaim. It was quite a fast car in the day but it met its engage the rear suspension arm parted ways with the body and it developed rear wheel steering and I rolled it. So , I wanted mine done properly...

There is quite a Civic following in the US, I ought to have another search on their websites for parts.

0-40 is rapid, 40-60 is alright, anything above that is a slow gain. Presumably aerodynamics starts playing a considerable part vs 70bhp...

My suspension arm bracket is attached to the inner sill, which is attached to the rest of the car, so it shouldn't fall off without considerable encouragement. It's just not a very neat job... One of those instances where I was driving the car home at the end of the day so it had to be done and dusted. I'll have to re-attempt it at some point in the not so distant future...

Really it's getting a bit old/rare to be the winter hack/daily runner. That's why I acquired a Volvo 740, but that was horrendously thirsty (15mpg on the commute vs the Acclaim's 38mpg) and terminally rotten...

After he refused to pay me more than £160 for it.

If it'd had more than 3 days MOT or I had a driveway I'd have eBayed it with a £200 start but the cunt was going to be not road legal and blocking half my street, couldn't risk it sitting and it was £130 to scrap it...

Somebody eventually bought my old Volvo for £450, said he was going to weld it up. We'll see.

Meanwhile it transpired the Acclaim was slightly worse than expected.

This is the floor the jacking point is below, as I was underneath we found the car was slowly sinking as the floor buckled upwards because the bitumen sound deadening pad was holding the floor together...

The outer arches and outer edge of the inner were crafted from fibreglass, this was known. However the whole inner arch was also rotten right up the outside edge of the strut tower as high as the parcel shelf.

Obviously with the rot being so extensive there was no point in repairing the car, especially after I sacked off the Volvo for being a rotter. So it was repaired.

Once reassembled and booked in for an MOT it reward my efforts by seizing the handbrake and boiling the brake fluid on the motorway...

Still needs a load of work, bits of trim are missing and the panel fit is all over the shop. Aim is to get it road legal and then chip away at the detail work.

It's a bit unfortunate that, aside from the better paintwork, the car looks damn near the same as when we started. That's mostly due to the fact that the car actually looked half decent in the first place, if we'd known how rotten it was to start with we wouldn't have started...

Bloody hell cap that's some good work.
Have you considered trying to get it in the PC monthly restorations section?
