Re: red5 stuff
They had quite a long run, though....from Motor Show the year after the first Consul Cortina right through until the Mk3 took over. The first "J" plate car I ever saw in August 1970 was an Amber Gold 2000E. I do worry about my early-life memory.....

So they were not all V-4 engined then. Red 5's is a 1500, Consul engine? Can't have been much of a road burner. Ford had a knack for making cars that looked like they should go well, but were really cunningly disguised versions of their family saloons - sheep in wolf's clothing, if you like.

The thing about old Fords is that you could get them from mild to wild and many flavours in between.
Initially there was only the 1,500, still with carby and exhaust on the same side, but later there was also a two litre GT, one of which was used by Tony Brookes and some of his friends to set 15 class G World Records at Monza in 1964. Then there was a three litre conversion available from Crayford.

Just lucky I guess.AlabamaShrimp wrote: ↑Thu May 23, 2019 9:02 pm So from such a start how did you turn into a serial Frontera botherer?
Wasn't a fan when I was at Vauxhall and we were selling them. Well, not much of one.
Useless fact: the last time I didn't have one was 2009 I think. Hmmm.
Re: red5 stuff
Indeed - basically a long Cortina with pointy bits and a flip down number plate for the fuel filler.fried onions wrote: ↑Thu May 23, 2019 9:58 pm So they were not all V-4 engined then. Cor.
Mine was slightly warmed over - 1500 GT big valve head and 28/36 DCD off my Cortina GT.
Made good progress on Lotus rims with Grand Prix S all round !

- I scored very low on the autie test. I’m cheerful, happy, confident, like meeting new people, chatty and largely sociable. What the fuck am I doing on this forum?

My mates dad had a GT estate in pale blue with Lotus Cortina (I think) steel wheels. Rare old beast even back them.

No, it is a pre-X flow of the Kent family, derived from the Anglia 997/1200 unit - used in the Consul Classic as well before finding a home in the Cortina.
No relation to the 1508/1703 4 pot unit used in the big Fords.
It was this unit that formed the basis for the Cosworth developments and in Corsair GT form was a pretty good performer.
