Gerald Palmer....He was the designer. Started with Nuffield before the War, then joined Jowett where he did the Javelin before returning to Nuffield just before the BMC takeover and headed the team for the range that included this Wolseley, the MG Magnette and the bigger Riley/Wolseley models.
Went on to Vauxhall after that....

That is nice, but I prefer the Riley version as I am a contrarian - especially since there was almost no Riley content by then.
The Riley version of the shape is quite a different car, particularly the Pathfinder which did at least have the Riley lump. The 2.6 (with the C Series) was companion to the Wolseley 6/90. The bigger ones vs. the smaller Wolseley (and MG Magnette) share only a similar silhouette - a bit like the 4 and 6 pot Farinas. Haven't seen a Riley Pathfinder or 2.6 for ages but there is a Wolseley 6/90 on Ebay at the moment, coincidentally being flogged by the geezer with the SA Hunter.....
Thanks - I actually bought a book on the history of Riley after someone posted that RM for sale upthread, but I haven't read it all yet.

You lot make yourselves useful. Recommend me a book I can look for about history of British cars, maybe a make in particular? Eg Riley or Morris or Daimler.

The one I bought recently was “Riley cars 1896-1969” by Rob Malpas. About £11 plus postage. It doesn’t have masses of technical detail, but it is a decent history and has plenty of photos. I am now wondering where I can learn more details about the various engines Riley offered - I had no idea before this that there was a Riley V8 for a while.

I haven't dipped inside a car book for many years, at least not one I don't already own so my recommendations are outdated and probably of little use. However.....

"British Cars Family Cars of the Fifties" by Michael Allen is a good overview of the Post-war saloon car.
Michael Allen also has written excellent guides to individual Ford models "Consul, Zephyr, Zodiac" and "Anglia, Prefect, Popular"

"Accessible Classics" did a good volume on the Austin A30/A35 but I'm not sure they followed up with any others.

"Jaguar" by Andrew Whyte is a good read, there are of course plenty of other Jag books....

"MG" by F.Wilson McComb worth looking out for

I'm not a great fan of Graham Robson but "The Rover Story" remains on my shelves as does "The Cars of BMC" although that tends to go for silly money.

Men of the Austin by Barney Sharrat goes beyond the cars themselves but very interesting, as is Postwar Baby Austins by the same author.
Austin Healey by Geoffrey Healey is straight from the horse's mouth (or the foal's, at least....)

James Taylor has written good books on Rolls-Royce "Original Rolls-Royce & Bentley" and "Classic Rovers 1934-1977"

Prewar stuff - St John Nixon has written well of Wolseley and Daimler.

Vauxhall - Michael Sedgwick wrote one for Beaulieu Books, despite referring to a similar work as "sheer pornography!"

Morris - A recent Haynes publication I have found interesting is the one by Jon Pressnell or for more indepth reading try Morris Cars 1913-1983 by Harry Edwards.

I have read many of the "Complete Story" series, too...Crowood are the publishers, check their website as many are still in print. They're pretty good.....

If any others come to mind I'll let you know!

Well that's plenty to be going on with. Have to see what amazon have as I have an account and will be ordering something soon.
The classic rover one sounds good, ditto the Riley one among others.
