What did you do today?

Talk about your cars etc here. Keep it sort of sensible and on topic please.

To be fair I've not found much bodging! Lots of rust though 🤣. Mechanically it's pretty much perfect now. I've bought another one which initially was going to be a spares van. However on collection it turned out to be really solid other than back end of sills and rear arches. That's awaiting welding and transformation into a replica french Citroen service van.

I don't know what you paid for the van but you'll get a bit back when you scrap the three spokes

Dented the passenger door :( I had a bit of help from Chester but the initial fault was mine: I parked too close to a bollard, opened the door for the dogs to get out and Chester hit it like a steam train which slammed it into the bollard. I am sad... I do know that in the grand scheme of things it is a mere bagatelle but it's MY CAR! I love my car. Oh well I got away with it last week so Karma I s'pose.

Got into the Datty earlier, turned ignition key and 'click'. Nowt else. Newish battery too. So I belted the starter with a hammer a couple of times and rocked her about on the ring gear and still nowt. Then I started thinking about starters and replacing starters :(
An hour or so later it was getting dark and I was annoyed I hadn't had my drive but I went back and lifted the bonnet, took all the electrical connectors off the motor and solenoid. The motor connections were pretty rusty, sanded everything with emery cloth, bunged a bit of vaseline on and replaced, started very easily first turned of the key 😀 so I went for a drive after all.
Just goes to show...again, that with old cars electricals corrosion is the first consideration.

Good work. I've had that twice this month - main earth lead on the camper went all resistive on a lay-by re-start after a brew up. I'd recently fitted it as it looked better than the one on there. Should have left the bloody thing alone - luckily the "old" one was kept in the van toolbox.

Same thing happened in the Cowley Wednesday morning after loading up for a trip to Brighton. I went straight to it after the van issue and found the car end of the earth lead wasn't as tight as it should have been.

Sort of stuff that normally trips me up with the onset of winter, not in high summer.....
