Re: Land Rover Rustorashun
all this towing stuff reminds me of a story.
School chum of mine had a most intimidating dad, naturally he was Met Trafpol and smoked around in a late 2 door (early 80s) he regaled us with a story of meeting a broken down Army Bedford at top end of the A3 and heading back to Chelsea Barracks. No idea what type but can only assume MJ/MK as it was of that era. agreed to tow it the few miles over the river and back to base using the 2 Door RR.
Must have known that the truck was 5 tons but what they didn't know is that it was also full of personnel and their kit, progress was slow and steady yet the car did it. Lord only knows how they got the air brakes off or how they managed to brake the truck. Maybe the engine was a runner in it still.
Started for me a life long passion for Rangies

After my Granddad died I had Granddad's Austin Princess 1700 for a while.
Blacksmith had a Bedford CF van with self made roof rack.
(This Blacksmith does not scrimp on materials)
Anyway, the clutch went in the Bedford on his way back from the Steel Holders with his shopping on the roof rack and in the back of the van and the usual set of tools and materials (including a full size Oxy-Act set) in the van.
He was blocking a junction in Leith and was panicking the Leith Police were going to arrive any second.
So I towed him and the van behind the Princess back to his workshop.
He admitted that there was nearly two tons (metric) on the roof rack.
So probably about four tons all up.

One of the things that struck me was how cooperative the other traffic was.richardthestag wrote: ↑Fri May 01, 2020 10:49 am oh and I am going to leave this here

Now it'd be more like it's my right to be here so you can fuck off if you expect to inconvenience me to move out of your way.

Interesting route to take. I didn't have the volume up, but why not rattle down Constitution Hill to The Mall?richardthestag wrote: ↑Fri May 01, 2020 10:49 am oh and I am going to leave this here
