Re: Claim's Cabbies Corner. A shift to remember.
I doctored a certificate on the photocopier at work in pre-internet/PC days. It was for the firm's van for which I was covered but head office hadn't sent the new certificate down to us and we only had the old one. I'd had a producer a week or so before which was on its last valid day so I amended the old certificate and photocopied it. I didn't tell the gaffers up in Scotland as I didn't want them to know about my off-duty useage and in any case it would have taken a couple of days to get down to me.
Desk sergeant sussed it was a copy but didn't (or admit to) spot the change and said loudly "You should have an original, son, these can be altered....." Producer validated, no further worries.
Life was actually easier before all this modern blather.

I want that embroidered on a T-shirt.
And in due course, engraved on my headstone.

Private hire drivers, I was classed as such at Limobike, do need a medical. That’s in London, I guess it’s the same everywhere.

Having just looked up my former Cooncil website. Both Taxi & PH drivers need to meet Group 2 medical requirements (same as lorry/bus).
Less than 30 years ago there was nothing. No crim records check (well not on my wallet), no medical, no knowledge. You paid the money and got the badge. I'm sure Branders will remember when that there London was unlicenced (and it was only about 25 years ago too)

London was unlicenced when I started at Limobike. I’m believe it was the last authority to licence private hire.Eddie Honda wrote: Tue Mar 18, 2025 12:23 pm Having just looked up my former Cooncil website. Both Taxi & PH drivers need to meet Group 2 medical requirements (same as lorry/bus).
