I did keep a look out but I didn't see you. Explains why!

Unless I'm really early, I just park up in a side street.

According to Google this is where I parked up today.

The Caddy is on it's way !! Poor sod had to wait around for the transporter who didn't turn up until gone 11pm. Hopefully it will get to the house in one piece sometime tomorrow and the electrician can shove it in the workshop for me.

These Eastern European drivers do keep some unusual hours. The Caddy was dropped off at 10 tonight. It does look a bit rough and the few years it has spent down in the South have been rather hard on it. I found pictures of it at a show in Northern France in 2017 and it was looking much better.

Bloody French and their paperwork. It looks like I am going to have to import it into the UK to get a V5 then export it back out again to get the French reg. The guy I bought it from didn't register it before the system changed and now they reckon registration is impossible. That kind of explains why it was so cheap.

That’s more common that most realise. Unless the chain is bulletproof, it’s an ornament. He’ll have known that when he sold it.
I’ve been ‘cleansing’ a mates eclectic Normandy purchases for years, in exchange for some right old tat. Seems to work well, so far

If you do that then it's one lot of duty/VAT. It shouldn't be two because returned goods relief (paperwork trail, inside 3 year or something)

Why UK anyway? For tax purposes I'd avoid GB completely and take it NI for registration purposes so it doesn't actually leave EU at all. Could it not go Benelux and back?

I will try Eplaque to see if changing it to a collection carte gris might work. If that doesn't work I will have to set up an import / export company as I have already got the vat regsistration and have an EORI number so I am sure with a bit of effort I can do something. The French system changed last year and you have to notify within 30 days a change of owner and a lot of people are struggling with the new rules. I have plenty of time to sort it so no great rush I just don't want to waste money on controle technics etc if they won't register it.

If exporting, understand the Country of Origin.

Because second hand the CoO is FR. Then going to GB, it probably escapes tariff, but gets hit with VAT. Going back to FR (or anywhere in the EU for that matter) they like to hit it with more VAT unless you know if there's an exemption that applies and ask / do all the paperwork for it. Time limits apply.

An example is the Percy Pig problem. Made in DE, exported to GB and re-entering IRL+FR.

https://www.rte.ie/news/business/2021/0 ... t-forward/

Similar to getting things repaired. Mrs H had some specs that needed repairing, but nobody offers the service here. Sent them to GB to get repaired with the paperwork right and they weren't held to ransom by customs for tariffs/VAT on their returns.

All a ball ache all the same, that's why I would either keep it in the EU (including Northern Ireland). Or utilise a watery border of the Irish Sea, as in FR > IE > NI > GB where you're not going to get stopped. I mean, there must be a mechanism to register a barn find with no plate on it with the DVLA with just a dating cert.

Well even though Eplaque claim to be able to help with registration in France they have been no help whatsoever. It looks like it will have to come over here. I have found an agent who will sort the paperwork at a more reasonable £150 so I might go that way if I can't sort it out myself. It will probably save me a few quid as I can get my guy to sort the bodywork out over here at a more reasonable cost. Then flog it on once registered here as I have my eye on another bit of French chod to take out there.
