Re: Squire's voitures
Not exactly....! It's an old American saying
Meaning of jim-dandy in English
jim-dandy
noun [ C ] US old-fashioned informal
UK /ˌdʒɪmˈdæn.di/ US /ˌdʒɪmˈdæn.di/
plural jim-dandies
something that is very pleasing or of excellent quality:
That new car you bought is a real jim-dandy.
Musically speaking I was more in mind of this...Musical nothing to do with the tunes by the way but they go quite well together.

Re: Squire's voitures
I'd clean the block a bit more with 240 grit, a rubbing down rubber block and WD40.
Meanwhile, I'm digesting this engrossing epistle: The pre 1961 story of the BMC Comps department from the Magnettes and A50's to the first rally 850 Minis.

Re: Squire's voitures
Indeed it does. Much more interesting than when it was all Minis.
I have started painting the block and cylinder head. Getting a good colour match is proving difficult. When shopping for the nearest hue it was a toss-up between Ford dark blue and Cadillac blue. I couldn't possibly use a Ford colour, and neither would Rootes, so Cadillac it had to be. It became evident that some mixing would be necessary, so I dug out an old tin of Land Rover duck-egg blue (actually more like a pastel light green), originally bought for an 803cc A-Series but I was mislead by the 'blue' description.
I tried various admixtures of the two but think there is something missing. More green perhaps? If my artist uncle was still alive I could ask him. Or I could add black, which usually solves everything...
There is one test patch that looks reasonably close however, now it's just a case of getting the mixture right.
Of course, there is another reason for painting things more than just making it look nice. The paint will protect the engine from corrosion.
I'm not happy with this mixture, I'll have to keep trying until I get it right.

That photo seems to show that the gap between 1 and 2 is worn compared to the others.fried onions wrote: ↑Sun Mar 01, 2020 3:17 pm
The blow between 1 & 2 doesn't seem to have caused any damage, but I never did check with a straight-edge.

Re: Squire's voitures
I'm in agreement with Ben and the Reverend here although it was 2&3 that caught my eye, give it all a really good clean up, try wrapping the wet and dry round a piece of glass or a mirror to give a nice large flat surface, don't spend too long in any one spot - like between 1&2 as it looks like that had had quite a clean up already.

He even quotes the colour as Ambassador Blue....!
