What did you do today?

Talk about your cars etc here. Keep it sort of sensible and on topic please.

My new windscreen regulator arrived from USofA.....but the opinion is not drilled for a bolt to hold the winding handle on. Reluctantly I stripped it to drill and tap.

Drilling went well

Tapping went well......then I thought I'd just go a bit more.

Broke the fucking tap.

Moved on to fitting wiper motor.

Measured carefully.

Lost the fucking spindle nut.....M10 fine so not easy to find on a Sunday so mission aborted.

Didn't touch anything else fearful of fucking it up......

Have you got one of those little magnets on the end of a stick you can poke about for it?

My cousin bought his van round for me to look at. Maybe you guys can give me a clue as to what's occurring? 2015 transit connect with the lovely* 1.6 hdi/tdci lump in it with 67k. He said yesterday the fan kicked in full speed as he pulled up followed by smell of oil. He popped bonnet to find dipstick out and oil everywhere. now the dipstick has a o ring seal on it and it takes pressure to make sure its fully in so some pressure has built up to force it out. There is a ticking/tapping noise that's more prominent when the oil cap is removed with engine running but it's not a regular rhythm to it. It's also breathing heavy with smoke quite thick from the oil filler. I've checked pcv diaphragm and pipework from rocker cover to air box and cant see anything out the ordinary. The oil doesnt smell like diesel either. I'm thinking something amiss in turbo or start of head gasket failure. Any other things to check?

Breathing could be rings or bore issues too.

You've got a compression tester haven't you?

Blocked crankcase ventilation would be my guess, but it's a bit* modern for me.
EGR doing something wierd maybe? Is it showing any fault codes that won't go away?

Parked the van on the flat so I could check the oil level. Needed a litre and a half, the pinto is absolutely fucked. Must find time to build my spare back up and fit it.

Like the trike but unlike moderns it will keep on running. I really need to rebuild the engine in that too plus the luggage box has rotted so need ideas on that now!
