Three wheeled Reliants are risible dogshit and the lowest common denominator of motoring. Almost 30 years ago I worked at a multi franchise dealership and the Plastic Pig was still being made, driven by old farts and odd blokes you wouldn't leave your children with. Absolutely awful to drive as well.

Little has changed I suspect.

No it isn't, you cheeky git! I'm not that much older than you!
Yeah but you daily a Honda Jazz. That automatically adds another generation or two onto your age. 😉

Got both sides to do on the Synergie when I can be arsed, so appreciate the tool review.

You don't need one.

Turn the rack to full lock and use stilsons or Molegrips to remove and refit. I use a bit of Wurth green threadlock. That makes them a bit harder to remove next time but WTF.

I couldn't quite get mole grips, stilsons or plumbers pliers on this at full lock without them being at an angle and loosing significant mechanical advantage.

I was tempted with one of these types:

But given how often I do this job, it isn't worth the cost to me.

This was another cheap option:

Wasn't sure how much grab it would have so I went with the one that I did. At least it should be possible to do it up tight and have it stay in place on that style though.

I did see the hex on in the inner joints. Sometimes there are a couple of flats and sometimes fuck all. Re thread lock, does nobody stake them with a punch anymore?

If my 32mm spanner was offset, I'd probably been able to do that. I was tempted to cut and weld my viscous fan spanner. Or use a crows foot but I didn't have one that big. To buy one that size would have been more than this tool.

I got a set of passable (6 to 32 combos) cheap from Lidl for less than 40 yoyos. Ideal candidates for remixing.

I only wanted a 22/24/27 for dicking around with airlines at work, but to buy separately...

FTFY. It cannot be the lowest. I can think of a few others that are below it, but the lowest is of course the unmentionable.

SiC wrote: Fri Mar 29, 2024 8:47 am It's all generational. As someone who was born in the 80s, grew up in the 90s and passed their test in the early 00s, my view on cars will be dictated by that. To me 80s cars were the crap bangers, 90s performance was cool older and 00s performance was cool modern. Those born a decade/generation or two before likely have they shifted.

There is a lot of 90s performance stuff I'd like but all that has gone crazy money. E.g. R32 GTR, Supra, NSX, 993, 996 Turbo, even Clio Williams, 106 Rallye, etc.

Where as 00s era performance is still cheap and affordable territory. However that's clear it's not going to be long. Already it's getting harder to get examples of such stuff. E.g. Saxo VTS are rare now (and quite expensive) and this Golf that hasn't been modded wasn't easy to find. A E46 330Ci is already on the rise but the Z4 coupé is still at the flat line bottom of its curve.

Probably not interesting to many on here as seen as too modern. Yet they're fast approaching or gone past 20yrs old.

Back when I passed my test in 2003, a 18 year old car would be an early Golf GTi MK2 - now worth decent money. In 2024, a 18 year old car is this GTI Mk5.

So maybe not of interest on many here as seen too modern, but in reality they're really getting on a bit and certainly not modern to most people now. Exemplified when a mate said why don't I just sell all my old cars and just buy something nice that is under 10yrs old.
Well I'm a few years younger than you, I passed my test in 2008 and I'm sorry but I wouldn't be seen dead in a FLOG, they do nothing for me. Dull as ditchwater. Sorry.
The Mk1 Robin is the cutest of the lot. I had a Mk2 I bought from Torsten, it was a really fun little car to bomb around in but unfortunately as I'm 6ft and 16 stone it was uncomfortable to drive. Definitely a little car for little people.
