Re: Scooter for a 16 year old
With the average 16 year old at the controls I can't imagine it's design life is much over 3-4 weeks anyway?

I assumed the incrediably small pool of them left was a just a falls through the gap in legislation, they were legal with the prior legislation and remained so when it was initially changed (as long as you kept the pedals)Eddie Honda wrote: ↑Mon Mar 18, 2024 3:03 pmGoes too fast for an AM licence. Why retain a cat p as granddad rights?
Anyway my old ZR50-X1 GDV 918V no mention of moped in the model type.

Yeah, but if AM were meant to cover them, then there would be no need to retain national category p. I'll have a look through the legislation when I can be arsed (unlikely).DodgeRover wrote: ↑Mon Mar 18, 2024 3:49 pmI assumed the incrediably small pool of them left was a just a falls through the gap in legislation, they were legal with the prior legislation and remained so when it was initially changed (as long as you kept the pedals)Eddie Honda wrote: ↑Mon Mar 18, 2024 3:03 pmGoes too fast for an AM licence. Re: Scooter for a 16 year old
I thought I better check my lecy thing and on the V5 it is down as a Moped in class L1. In eco mode it is 28mph but sport will get it up to 40 on the speedo. I suspect it is one of these cat P jobs even though it was registered in 2021.

Re: Scooter for a 16 year old
It's not a cat p job (max 31mph / 50km/h) as that goes back to the third driving licence directive (3DLD) which came in Jan 2013.
It's (type approval category) L1e-B in 28mph / 45km/h mode. If it's flicked over to sport then it's L3e-A1 (A1 licence). Keep your head down if flying along, although the chance of getting busted is nil.

Haven't read the whole thread. Has anyone mentioned a Derbi Senda yet?

I didn't because of the theft issue...but they use the same AM6 engine as all the fast 2 stroke 50s

Re: Scooter for a 16 year old
There is a little gang in the local town that meet up in the early evening to thrash up and down the main street on 50cc two strokes.
I heartily encourage this.

I briefly owned a predator and nearly bought a senda but not sure if being talked out of it was a good or bad idea.Arthur Foxhake wrote: ↑Mon Mar 18, 2024 6:30 pm Haven't read the whole thread. Has anyone mentioned a Derbi Senda yet?

The X1 could be derestricted quite nicely. 45 mph easily. See also Suzuki ER50.DodgeRover wrote: ↑Mon Mar 18, 2024 3:49 pmI assumed the incrediably small pool of them left was a just a falls through the gap in legislation, they were legal with the prior legislation and remained so when it was initially changed (as long as you kept the pedals)Eddie Honda wrote: ↑Mon Mar 18, 2024 3:03 pmGoes too fast for an AM licence.
