Honda Jizz update - 208k+

Pulled the trigger last night and booked a NCT for Sat 13th April. There were appointments added to the online system for a block starting Mon 8th April, but I can't be doing with a mid-week one with everything going on.

Motor Tax is due at the end of the month, but I splashed out for another quarter (€108). I must have nearly forty discs rammed in the holder now. System still doesn't stop you buying the damn things even without a valid roadworthyness ticket. They just want your fucking money.

My Coke can repair viewtopic.php?p=207412#p207412 of the exhaust heat shield had given up. Lasted just over a year and a half. Corrosion had eaten through some of the very thin sheet.

Cock. One of the bolt heads sheared off. So MOAR work.

Also the brown bit directly above the exhaust is a bit of seam sealer / underseal missing. Better sort that out too before I have a Drum pile of rust.

I checked all the levels and tyre pressures. Added some screenwash and mibbie 300ml of oil. Brake fluid not dropped at all either, so it was just the one leaking caliper and nothing else that was causing it last time.


Turned my attention to the ARB drop links as there as been an annoying rattle for a while now.

NSF, nothing seems amiss here. If there is any play in the bottom joint, it's hardly noticeable.

Something for the shopping list. Might splash out on Honda ones rather than Great Bunch of Lads six-month specials. I'll see how much they are chiselling folk for.

Didn't get a proper look, but whilst Honda Jr 2 was rocking the steering, there may well be a bit of play in the inner rods or outer track rod ends. I need to have a good butchers with it me under it.

Anyway, will have to pull my finger out and play catch-up now I have set a deadline on testing this.

Various front end bits for the Jizz. I don't need much beyond the drop links, but stuck shit loads extra on the order as free delivery takes about 10 days to rock up. It can sit on the shelf and if I find something is needed mid-job I hopefully have it covered.

PUG 106 GARDEN ORNAMENT

I gave it a wash the other day. Most of the shit came off, apart from the nearside front corner. That bit is covered with baked-on tree cum. I should really finish what I started a decade or so ago. Despite it being a 954cc Irish market misery spec it's a grand enough steer if you keep the pedal to the metal.

I think I first had my SiC poke of it around 2012, just after I moved here. I've got a shit load of parts to do the back axle, brakes and shocks somewhere...

I thought it best to drag myself outside and at least make a start on this car. The clock is ticking to the NCT day.

The underside of this isn't too bad in the grand scheme of things. One of the benefits of not living in an octopus's garden, in the shade, like Drum.

Skoosh some stuff on the fasteners. On these M10 threads, Honda has flange nuts with miniscule 14mm hexes.

Started them off with the ugga dugga, but well they were bound to start spinning sooner or later, so I had to go a hunting for a 5mm Allen key. Once I got the hex hole cleaned out and the key in nice and deep, a modest amount of backwards and forwards waggling ensued and I was able to remove the nut without problems.

I did make a note before ordering to get the correct parts. These are the later GD Jazz type with the ball joints facing almost the same way. They are handed as there is a 10° difference in orientation. The earlier ones that can be ordered in error (crap aftermarket catalogue application lists) are more like 90°.

I did think briefly about Honda Genuine parts (I've never changed them before and they are likely original), but at €81.94 each compared to these Febi ones at €16.32, I'll gamble and change the fuckers 5 times more often if I have to.

New links came with new nylocs, but I had dig out my own washers. Also had to go off and hunt down my long 17mm combo for the new nuts as they are more conventionally sized.

Whilst I have the wheel off, dealt with the broken ABS cable clip. The old one had lost its arrow head wings. Fucking dear bastards at a yoyo-fiver a pop.

Quite impressed I didn't have to cut the things off. Would have done the other side, but had a to collect Mrs H.

The road test confirmed most (but not all) of the knocking has been eliminated. There is a wee bit of play in the lower joint on the passenger side, but not nearly as much as there was this side, so weather permitting that is a tomorrow job.
