£5k would have got you a far more presentable one a few years ago, that's for sure. I can no longer equate "value" with "asking price" on just about anything, really......

No fucking way I lost way too much money on that fucking GT. They are total crap badly built and the Lotus lump is nothing special other than being a right sod to work on.

I thought the engines in the Lotus were okay to work on, which was just as well given how often they need attention! I had to pull the engine out of my Excel as the rear oil seal had gone walkies and, as it was such a sod to get out (engine and gearbox have to come out together) I rebuilt the engine with new rings and shells etc. The worst thing was doing the valve clearances with all those poxy little shims.
Oh and I timed it 180 degrees out so it didn't start first time
