Loved them too. Had a couple of matchbox europas when I was a kid which is the closest I'll ever get to owning one.

My MGB was apparently traded in against a JPS Special, at a Datsun dealer of all places. I guess a 240Z was involved further up the 'chain'.

There was racer from Leeds who was very successful with one until they put his car on the weighbridge. It was 150lbs lighter than it should have been, the benefits of being a millionaire who could commission a lightweight chassis etc.. It did go very well though, I saw it loads of times at Prodsport races.

Les Reed, a very successful songwriter and record company owner.

What would the modern equivalents be ?
AMG GT, Cullinan and a Urus ? Don’t think anybody is going to look at a picture of those horrors in 50 years time with anything but disdain.

I know it’s possible to buy a new SL, a Ghost and a Huracan for those with a bit more taste, unfortunately that’s rarely the case with the modern rich.
