No more cheapie drinks there then.
Back to truck things, I joined the Bedford club a while back mainly cos you have to be in a club of some sort to get classic insurance. Anyway this newsletter has some CF 4x4 details- I never knew it had a full time set up with VCU like Freelander's were lumbered with later on. I'd imagine it would be very short lived if the van got much use off road.
Another thing I wasn't aware of was that the CF had the option of a larger Perkins engine at launch- above its feeble 4.108. l wonder if anyone's ever encountered one- I'm thinking hens teeth.
Also there was the proposed 'Big CF' A series rival which got canned- shame.
I'm trusting that you know of this book Mr Thunder. Loads of commercials from round your way, some of which I remember trundling round Wellingborough when I worked there in the '70's.

Re: Trucks Lorries Vans Commercial Whatever
I had a CF ambulance with Ferguson 4WD. Unusually, mine had single rear wheels - most of 'em were twins. It was colossally under-geared and wrung its knackers off at 50mph. Also over-bodied with a ply-GRP laminate by Hanlon..... Apparently it was built for the Mendip area. By the time I got hold of it the front shafts were just free-wheeling and eventually knackered the front wheel bearings which at the time I was unable to source. Some of these Hanlon conversions (not 4wd ones) were fitted with V6 Holden engines - I have seen at least three of these but no other four-wheel-drives....

Bugger me, was that Holden's own V6? I once had one of the early 1.6 engined CFs, somehow not as good as a Transit even with it's nasty V4.

Straight 6 in the CF not V6 those were only fitted to the later model Holden Commodores, they didn't exist when the CF was in production

Yeah, don't know why I said V6....inline of course, same displacement as the PC engine but a totally different unit I believe. They were only ambulance spec. too, I think - like the V8 Sherpa blood boxes.

I think they were available to any customer via special order, just not many van customers wanted them, shame really as I doubt they were much worse on fuel than the slant 4.

The ambulances, at least, were autos.....I imagine as Dodgerover says, it was a tickbox on a special order sheet too.cros wrote: ↑Wed Dec 25, 2019 8:34 pmI imagine the gearlever was just inside the back door with a straight 6.mercrocker wrote: ↑Wed Dec 25, 2019 7:24 pm Yeah, don't know why I said V6....inline of course, same displacement as the PC engine but a totally different unit I believe.
