Put them back on last night.

It runs when I fuel the carbs but isn't drawing petrol from the tank.
Further investigation tonight.
Does it have a vacuum line to the fuel tap?
Yes
Ah, but is it connected properly and vacuuming.

It was officially rather chilly riding down to my mum's today. Even with the heated jacket cause my legs got cold.

I've got some chinky doodah copies of the V-strom handguards to fit for winter, but forgot to order the longer pivot bolts for the levers they attach too, so they aren't on yet, meaning cold hands. I'm still in summer gloves as winter ones are bloody horrid and bulky so can't ride properly.

XJ update

The fuel tap has a prime setting which, as I understand it, overrides the vacuum valve. In reality, the valve doesn't seem to work as petrol runs in all positions of the tap, even with the vacuum pipe disconnected.

It behaved like the pump wasn't working (vacuum operated on this model, looks like it was replaced with an electric one from about '96) Ran rough until the carbs emptied.

Gravity fed fuel into the carbs and it ran, albeit still only in 3.
Connected the pump back up and it now seems to be working.

Haven't fixed the initial problem though. Almost made it worse as it was only running on the middle two cylinders until I gravity fed it.

I've been checking the temps of the pipes with my infrared thermometer. The non-runner was only showing 50 degrees while the other 3 were over 200. Tonight it was 100 so maybe intermittent firing going on. Balancing issue?

Indeed
I'll check spark next but I definitely got a tingle from the lead.

I still think that it must be a carb issue?

Unless it's a bad plug or tight valves, I can't imagine it cracking 100mph n 3 cylinders
