I believe Mercs have had the 'service' position of the bonnet for decades, even the SLK has it. I recall doing some wheel bearing adjustments on the w126 I had (560 SE... not an SEL note) and it was a proper delight to work on, almost vernier adjustment on the front bearings. It felt great to work on.

The SLK isn't 'quite' as nice, but still feels good to the touch and is certainly better built than the Jag.
