Re: Squire's voitures
that is shit luck, Squire....If you get in a tight spot with the Moggy David Manners will do next-day delivery if you order before 3pm. No high spots on the drum that could have caught a lining?
There's a great long bar in Rock & Roll heaven.......

Re: Squire's voitures
Now you mention it, there was a judder when braking at speed, as if the drum was slightly out of round. I bet that's what caused it. I believe I may be in luck for parts, I have asked for two front drums, riveted shoes and a few other things from one of my contacts.mercrocker wrote: ↑Mon Dec 09, 2019 11:11 pm No high spots on the drum that could have caught a lining?
Moss is indeed handy, I was a regular visitor when I had the MG, and I was getting to be on first name terms with the staff.

Re: Squire's voitures
Progress so far on Minor brake: nil.
Progress so far on removing Snipe cylinder head: disconnected H.T. leads.
I stripped, cleaned and re-assembled a spare Snipe distributor I was lucky to acquire. There are so many different service numbers for the DM.6 type fitted, due to different advance curves, that only one is specific to the Series II high compression engine, and it was this one the chap had. The existing distributor is for a low compression Series III, so may well be responsible for the stutter when snapping the throttle open and spitting back through the carb.
It was essential to take photographs and make notes because of the particular order things went together. The two bob weights, despite looking identical, were marked differently so had to go back in exactly the same order. Once the engine is back up and running again I will use the existing wrong distributor for a short time and then substitute for this one.

Nope the valves being burned out are responsible for it spitting back through the carb. Good find on the dizzy though

Great Work Squire ,
The work you are doing on Snipe should keep Her on the road for another 60 years
Cant wait for a ride when the Engine is done
Keep up the good work

It's been running with the wrong dizzy? I thought it went damn well on that ride six up from Eddyfest, it's going to be stonking with the correct dizzy & OD!

Thank you, I am looking forward to driving it again.Gilbert T Codwhacker wrote: ↑Sat Dec 14, 2019 10:02 pm Great Work Squire ,

I hope so, if prop shaft speed is increased by almost a third, I am hoping at 90 M.P.H. the engine will be turning at the speed it would ordinarily at about 67 M.P.H.
Yes, I suspect that may well be the case, we shall see when I fit the recon head. So as not to break the golden rule of fault-finding this time I will run it with the existing wrong dizzy for a while just to see, then swap it for the correct one. Thus replacing/disturbing only one thing at a time.DodgeRover wrote: ↑Sat Dec 14, 2019 9:53 pm Nope the valves being burned out are responsible for it spitting back through the carb.
