The effects of Covid on the market seem to have finally faded, not just on classics. In 2021 I struggled to find a nice Boxster for under £6000, looked at about 6 shit ones before I finally paid £5500 for an 02 2.7 , now it’s probably worth £4,000 if I’m lucky. In 2022 I again had to search high and low for my XF and paid £5,600 for a 2011 one with 135k , now not even £4,000with very few extra miles. I can’t complain as I did get what I paid in 2018 for a Merc E class that I’d earned a living with , when I WBAC’d it in 2021.
So hopefully there will be a plethora of £2/3000 Westminsters, Crestas and Zodiacs hitting Car and Classic soon , SIC ‘ s P4 seemed like a bargain and there have been a couple of £2000 P6es that looked pretty good. In the meantime does anybody want a Jag or Porsche?

Re: What did you do today?
I wish I put my Boxster up for sale at the start of the year now! I need to put it up for sale properly but I think I'll end up letting it go for around the £3.5k price point.
Its not good news for those that have multiple cars and need to shed a few. I know I'm a bit exposed with the amount of cars I own and what they cost to store. Thankfully its only thousands, not many tens of thousands. Glad I sold the P4 when I did though, especially as I'm mega happy with the Spitfire as my go to classic.
But a buyers market opens opportunity too. I'm trying to hold off buying anything until Xmas. My magic period is the one between Xmas day and New Year where everyone is hung over, broke from xmas and fed up about going to work. Stuff that goes on then can often go for cheaps.
Question is, what will the market do in Spring next year? Crystal ball time.

I predict further uncertainty as people realise the cost of Christmas and living is greater than the amount of money coming in.
Probably will see some fire sales as January starts and it's a long time to the pay check at the end of the month.

Probably, given that I sold it, would make sense. (It's still going by the way, to in Ohio)
Well, there's more metal in the floor now.mercrocker wrote: ↑Wed Sep 27, 2023 7:35 amEven at scrap metal prices that would be the case after all your work....
Surprisingly, the back of the car weighs less than it did before. Recall, it had 400 lbs of filler in, and two trunk floors...
Not here, but the way cars get priced here is based upon fairy dust and phases of the moon and the price of orange juice.SiC wrote: ↑Wed Sep 27, 2023 9:12 amYeah that's the flipside here. Prices are softening up but then they have massively inflated over the last decade. So while loosing money, they're going back to probably a more natural level that hasn't been pumped up from low interest rates.
80s/90s stuff and especially Japanese cars are still doing well though.

I didn't realise they were still a thing. I thought they had died years ago.

I downloaded all of mine a couple of years or so ago when I started getting these emails.
I still get this reminder a few times a year, maybe I should have deleted them but the emails just go into spam anyway.

Re: What did you do today?
The new thermostat housing/thermostat arrived today. It looks good and all correct. I need to go and get the hose clips though. I opened the bonnet and had a jolly good peer into the depths to make sure it looks like the same item (it does), I also noticed that the water level has fallen quite impressively and the joint in question is leaking lots and lots.
Would have buckled down and got on with it today, but it was cold and windy and to looked like it may rain...
It did rain, in fact, it still is properly pissing down. Even the dogs have given up on being outside and Chester is by/on my right arm and Bellend is laying on my legs with her head on my arse. Either she's snoring or I've got TERRIBLE wind!

I'd be interested in the Jag as I'm about to put my Volt up for sale.NorfolkNWeigh wrote: ↑Wed Sep 27, 2023 8:50 pm The effects of Covid on the market seem to have finally faded, not just on classics.
