Re: Wobland Spottage
I agree, it's quite astounding how many owners of pre-80 cars have gone out and changed their plates to black and white, it just looks so wrong. I won't mention the wankers of post 80 vehicles who drive about on b&w plates and indeed happily have their cars featured in magazines, on social media and TV and think that DVLA won't notice. They do. A friend used to work for them and used to mention illegal plates to offending owners at shows (she has classic cars herself) and told me that if she got attitude they would be told to change them and then have the car checked at an MoT garage. Polite owners got a warning.

Re: Wobland Spottage
Being a bit lazy I will stick these pics here from Simply French today. I also had a look round Beaulieu for the first time in years. I always though it was bigger, a few nice old motors but nothing like as good as Loheac let alone Mulhouse. It does annoy me how they all seem to put the cars in dark rooms now with lots of lighting. It really is a shit way to display cars. They do it with the Royales at Mulhouse and it doesn't improve anything. I assumed it was to stop punters taking pictures as they all come out shit but maybe someone has a better idea why.
Those Matra 530's really are an ugly duckling, not helped with a Ford V4 motor. The 504 Pug was also a bit odd as it had the early rear lights with the later headlights. My fav was the Fregate though, it was in lovely nick just a shame it was a transfluide. The boxes in these are made of really rare chesse so you would never want to drive it far.1939 Hotchkiss 864

Re: Wobland Spottage
Saw that Darrian Alpine go through Beaulieu earlier, too.
I'm not sure what is going on with museums these days in regard to darkened displays, I suppose it may be to do with reducing natural light and potential UV degradation. Not done Loheac but agree Beaulieu is now inferior compared to Mulhouse or even the museum at Le Mans.
Some places do actually prohibit photography, I can think of the Cadillac Museum near Poitiers and the display at Caister Castle.
I've sadly parted ways with Beaulieu after nearly 60 years of at least annual attendance, something like 40 plus Autojumbles and 30 years of Friends Membership, just too much gets in the way of enjoying the place these days.

Imported or first registered in the UK between 1st August 1981 to 31st July 1982 when the then-current X suffix would have been issued under the prevailing system at the time (Age-related plates did not come into general use in these circumstances until 1984)
