I seem to of done something stupid yet again

Had a bit of a poke around and the o/s sill certainly needs a bit of work. There is an invoice in the history for a previous owner buying it in 2018 for 8 1/2 grand. He then spent a fortune on it sorting niggles with the brakes and electrics. The plumbing for the servo needs sorting as the pipes just run round the top of the engine bay with no clips at all. I hope the "specialist" I bought it from hadn't done the work on it as it is not the best. The sills had been done before and there is some clean new metal but they were never treated on the inside hence rotting out again.

Have you worked out the chuffing noise yet?
Are inner and outer cills available, going from the pictures they were a bit eyes shut when describing the welding in the initial advert.

That’s a lovely old thing. The pre-V8 ones always seem more purist Rover to me.

He obvoisly didn't poke it very hard as most of the sill fell off with just grabbing hold of it. No need to do a SiC to find the rot. The other side is fairly good just a bit of inner at the front which is just a flat panel. I had another look and the chuffing is the head gasket. I suspect it is blowing off the side of the exhaust valves as it had good compression. Taking the fan off has allowed my to get a hand in there and feel for the escaping pressure. I will have to start whipping the head off this afternoon.

The Rover should be back up and running again this week now I have got the head back from being skimmed. I am hoping I have found someone to weld a sill on which I am collecting on Friday. If it then drives ok I will get the interior dyed and some new carpets then it can maybe find a new home as well.
I have got the UK V5 now for the Mobylette but that will probably be going straight out in a deal for welding the Rover. As I have a full 3 piece sill he should be able to do a decent job to it and save the car for a few more years again.
The hearse has had the roof painted but will probably be away for winter now. Then have the new 200w solar panel fitted to the roof in the spring ready for Le Mans next summer.
Finally the Renault 25 will get some miles on it this week as I have a funeral to go to in Essex so that should be a good shake down run before it goes to France in 2 weeks for the autojumble at Loheac.
A busy few weeks really which if all goes well and some cars get sold could end with a trip to Belgium for this.

I finished off the head gasket job this morning on the Rover and finally got around to running it up the road. Mmmmmmm disappointed is the word as it is not a nice car to drive. The steering is a bit wooly and the brakes are pretty shit (might just be it needs use). I know they are a bit laid back but the Lancia would blow the doors off the old thing in a drag race. I am picking up the new panels for it tomorrow and will then have to decide what to do. Maybe just flog it with the parts and try and get my money back as chucking a grand or so into it may not come back if the brakes and steering need a load of work.
