Do EVs make sense to you?

Talk about your cars etc here. Keep it sort of sensible and on topic please.

Hydrofluoric acid is really really nasty stuff with a habit of eating through whatever container it happens to be in including glass.

I think aliens use it for blood as it has the same effect as in the movie, so don't ever put your EV on a spaceship - Elon Musk I'm looking at you here!

EVs seem to be being hit harder than ICE cars in China:

"The price war triggered by Tesla (TSLA.O) has sucked in more than 40 brands, shifted demand away from older models and forced some automakers to curb production of both EVs and combustion-engine cars, or shut factories altogether."

"SAIC-VW, for example, offered over half a billion dollars in cash subsidies for car buyers in March and a discount of just over $5,100 on its ID.3 electric hatchback for a period in July."

I've just read this:

https://www.autotraderroadto2030.co.uk/

These are probably the most pertinent comments that I saw after a quick scan through:

"Concerns around the cost of new EVs and charging infrastructure continue to persist, with our latest consumer research revealing that a staggering 56% of consumers think that EVs are simply too expensive, with 47% believing that there aren’t enough charge points.

Of increasing concern is consumer concerns around battery life in used EVs. Largely driven by misinformation in the media, we now see that battery longevity is the number one barrier preventing consumers from considering an EV, with 61% needing to know that the battery will last before considering an EV as their next vehicle.

Without actions to address these issues and ensure we make the transition to electric fair for all, we risk leaving a majority of drivers "

Just as an aside I'm 100% in agreement with the view that they're too expensive.

One would be OK for us for local journeys providing we also had something like the Roomster that does 650+ miles per tank and can easily take 4 adults and their gear.

It'd be easy to charge it on the drive but they're just too expensive for what they are. We gave up trying to keep up with the Joness decades ago, if indeed we ever did.

Electric in Ebbw Vale? didn't know they'd discovered it yet there.

Nice to see the comments about them not being fit for purpose, the more people who say that the better.

It's going to be a while before they are at a level to be equal with my Merc.

Cost £1850, has already done 200K miles and remains viable.

Plenty of space.

And the killer - Range 650 miles on a single "charge" taking less than 10 minutes.
