What did you do today?

Talk about your cars etc here. Keep it sort of sensible and on topic please.

Been trying to fix my bloody Royale-massive overf uelling issues-changed injection system, MAF, idle control everything apart from the fuel pump-that next.
Luckily whilst playing with this my Range Rover decides to go up in smoke. Amplifier unit in door self combusted (wet?) and has taken out the windows for some reason-fucking cars!!!

As my Anglia has been resurrected following the Impala unfortunately and rather inconsiderately dropping a valve (engine carnage ensued) I thought it was time to buy it some new boots bearing in mind the last time was in about 2002/3. Ordered some new white white bands and went to the local tyre place for fitting. Upon leaving said place a set of temporary traffic lights had been put in place, seemingly not unusual in these parts and as the traffic on my right was waiting at a red off I went whilst noticing that the vehicle at the head of the queue was a lovely early fifties Leyland Comet flatbed lorry beautifully restored in the red and black livery of the London Brick Company.

But but I ordered white band tyres not blue

The blue is for protection but is a bugger to clean off especially with arthritic hands and wrists

Less of the no hubcaps boyracer look, on with them and the wheel trims

Spent ages scraping the last of the carbon fibre from the rear 'C' pillars on the Merc, blunt knife and a blunter thumb nail seemed to do the trick. Stuck £50 of super green in the ever greedy petrol tank and allowed the rain to wash it.

Also noticed that when the roof etc. doesn't work, the alarm light flashes even when the car is being driven, now that the roof and mirrors are fixed, the alarm light is behaving again. Curious...

The light is just a tiny telltale down on the dash centre console so easy to miss, especially if you are a myopic old twat with his head up his arse.

I spent Friday afternoon and Saturday morning finishing off the little jobs on the XR2. Set the gear selector up, put a sump washer on it to stop the leak and fitted the temperature switch. Took it for a run around the airfield (5 miles) and it performed admirably. As the weather was nice I got the Golf out too. Shame I can't keep both of them but storage is an issue.

I'm not a great fan of the hot hatch era but I could spend the rest of the year deciding which of those two to keep (and still be yearning for the other one).

Golf for me too. But then most Fast Fords don't do it for me (Capri excluded).

Head says Golf and some of the heart too but there is something about a quick Mk1 Fiesta that simply brings out the hooligan in me....
