I didn't know that, but I did know some rollers had hyperphewmatics on the back. Surely they didn't go to sleep?mercrocker wrote: ↑Thu Aug 10, 2023 8:56 pmYes I think they're dull old McPhersons up front, hydro only on the back - ironically like the first use of the system on late Tractions.

Re: Wobland Spottage
Not unless they were shagged and actually rarely even then. The R-R application was more in the way of shock absorber than actual suspension, the cars still had rear coil springs. Early Shads - up to 1969 - had the hydro on the front as well but apparently the car's suspension worked well enough without it so it was retained at the rear only as a self-levelling and damping medium.

Fully hydro according to Brian those BXs
I could get the GS to be nose up / arse down depending on where I left the height lever when parked.

Re: Wobland Spottage
Spheres up front, yes but I don't think the full suspension was hydro? I always thought they were there to assist in damping/ride control rather than ride height - just like the Rolls. Agree on the GS, mine used to settle fully like a DS.

I think they are. They certainly sink fully both ends. Was it one of the later ones that don't sink?mercrocker wrote: ↑Thu Aug 10, 2023 9:36 pm Spheres up front, yes but I don't think the full suspension was hydro?

Hmm, Xantia maybe...I dunno. I always thought that the BX stayed up at the front because of the inbuilt struts. Got me doubting now.

Citroen BX is McPherson strut at the front, but they are fully hydropneumatic struts.mercrocker wrote: ↑Thu Aug 10, 2023 8:54 pm Yes I think they're dull old McPhersons up front, hydro only on the back - ironically like the first use of the system on late Tractions...

With the lever left in high, the valve must stop most of the leak-back from the front.mercrocker wrote: ↑Thu Aug 10, 2023 9:47 pm Hmm, Xantia maybe...I dunno. I always thought that the BX stayed up at the front because of the inbuilt struts. Got me doubting now.

Re: Wobland Spottage
Makes sense, I'm still struggling to remember how parked BXs sat and I'm sure they didn't settle as fully as either a DS or a CX. I assumed that the front struts would prevent full sag at some point. I must admit I never sodded about with the lever on my GSA unless I actually needed the additional ride height maybe once or twice in a car boot field...
