Re: EBay Finds
I had a very similar B3 to that red one - in grey - H reg. It was a 1.8 petrol and had the contemporary golf GTI engine (although they didn't shout about that). It wasn't fast but it was huge inside and amazingly economical. I bought from the place I worked at 4 years old and 70K miles - sold it on at 130k and later bought it back as it was such a good car. Ended up with my sister but got scrapped due a number of years of hooky MOTs from her ex husband. When they split and she took it for an actual MOT the repairs were more than she could afford. Sad end - it was a great car.
I liked the unusual almost Bauhaus styling, the reliability and economy. I changed the hydraulic tappets (didn't need the head off, not a massive job) as they got noisy, other than that was just routine stuff which I could do myself.
The headlights were fucking awful. I traced the issue to a massive voltage drop as unusually for a "modern" car they were not relay controlled.

Re: EBay Finds
What are these like? I've been tempted to sell the Boxster and TT to perhaps get something like this. Not as special as a Cayman but significantly cheaper. Going down a car would reduce my expenditure on cars a fair bit. Probably £600 yearly on less insurance and tax alone.
Only thing is that I think I'd prefer an auto?

I've always thought of those as a modern day Austin Healey 3000.SiC wrote: ↑Fri Jul 14, 2023 11:01 pm What are these like? 261bhp is quite respectable and being N/A 6cyl, a smooth instantly responsive lump. 0-60mph is 5.7s apparently but manual so not as quick real world. Still quicker than many cars on the road.
I like Catchpoles intro on his review

I didn't know he has been reviewing cars for so long either. Shame he hasn't quite got the recognition he should have.

Re: EBay Finds
I was channel hopping the other night and saw Fatboy 'old out yer 'and Brewer on Quest. Turned out to be Wheeler Dealers Dream Cars (S02E09) "David's VW Golf GTI".
I think he bought a cheap Z4 along the way with a knackered gearbox.

Diesel 205 is the best 205. Miser spec power in a rattley wobbly tin can

Me too, I ran a 1.8 as daily about 20 years ago, amazingly economical, quite nippy, good heater and very comfortable.
