With my Impala out for the count after its engine dropped a valve which caused carnage my thoughts turned to resuscitating my Anglia which hasn't seen the road since about September 2020 when it did about three miles down to the next village and back. New battery bought, check. Fresh gallon or so of Esso's finest super unleaded (because no ethanol), check. I had already turned the engine over by hand so gave it a couple of goes on the starter to get a bit of oil pressure. Okay, time to go for it so that familiar sound of a Ford starter motor whirring away, oil light goes out, fuel reaches carb and a polite cough as the choke was in. Choke pulled out a bit, another go and success, started and ran like a top. Backed it out of its air chamber and let it run for a while whilst a friend and I checked for leaks. None forthcoming so I reversed down my drive then forward a couple of times no problem. It sat ticking over nicely. I had stopped using it as it does leak from the diff and gearbox as the seals have dried out after 60-odd years so my friend topped them up and it didn't take that much really. I have been waiting for over a year for another friend down south to fix the leaks and give it a once over as I'm quite fussy about who works on it as it's so original but I can't wait forever. It needs new tyres as those on it are from about 2001/2 so I'll order those and get them fitted in the next week or so. The friend who topped up the oil also cleaned up the bumpers and spot/fog lights and says he'll come back to do other bits as well as giving the paint a very careful light buffing bearing in mind it's getting on for 64 years. He used to do detailing so knows what he's about. I'm going to use it very locally for a few shows. Here it is in all its glory.
The mighty 997cc powerhouse, I have 39bhp under my foot and know how to unleash it
Interior hasn't been retrimmed, the front seats had new padding as the old foam had disintegrated
This is the actual mileage, not bad really
