I was told that for insurers it's purely a numbers game. It costs money to handle and process claims. If it's straightforward and low value it doesn't make much sense (especially for the big insurers) to fanny around as it'll cost them more money in admin time.
Hence why they'll write off low value cars at the drop of the hat. Airbags going off on a sub 5k is an instant write off. I believe most sub 10k cars now due to the amount of airbags and the obvious need to replace for brand new parts + associated other damage + hire car.

I have been down to the storage today and stuck two gallon of super unleaded in the Alvis, it did start up ok. A local garage has been booked to collect it on their transporter and bring it home next Tuesday. I have been tidying/clearing the garage out in readiness
Still some crap in there, but there is now room for it.- panhard65

Re: What did you do today?
The Renault Captur is up and running again chucking out quite a bit of steam to start with but it has had a fair bit of water chucked through it. I ordered a breather pipe for it on Friday as a previous garage had snapped it and glued it back together. The parts guys delivered it yesterday whilst I was out without leaving a note. I have just spent the last hour going through the cctv and it appears the wind got up and fuck knows where it is now. That's 50 odd quid gone then, I will give it a few days then order the bloody thing again if it doesn't show up.

Re: What did you do today?
I'm looking at a house later today, fingers crossed it is suitable for me. Then I can get all my stuff in there and have a spare garage again....
