I think Eddie is talking about the result being a whole number not a bastard fractional one.

I had MFV (now Tommy's) X300 3.2 that I won on a Roffle. Likewise found it very underwhelming.

Slow, crap auto gear box (slow and lockup at 55 mph ish so below modern other driver dawdling speeds), ponderous handling, thirsty and obnoxiously long (didn't fit in any car park space). Interior rather bland and flimsy.

I had an X300 3.2 and it was fine. No ball of fire granted but it could certainly get out of its own way when required. I liked it, it was better in every way than the 308 3.2, especially the dashboard.

My XJ40 did have a more class feel inside than my X308s, more old school class at least. Being a late one it was virtually a 12v X300. Some of the interior panels even had X300 codes on the assembly stickers but dated the right age for the car.

I still don't like the dash in the 308s, made worse by the fact the poxy 350 has the same wanky version. I MUCH prefer the two big four small dials of the earlier cars. The series one XJ6s was a step too far, exactly the same as my MK X apart from rocker switches instead of toggles.

I do prefer the X308 dash to the early digital XJ40s, that was gopping

I miss toggle switches, there was something very positive about them. The only one I've got is the overdrive on the MGB.

I miss being able to recover toggle switches from the scrap yard whilst helping* my dad...
