What did you do today?

Talk about your cars etc here. Keep it sort of sensible and on topic please.

Dunno about that. I have some fairly impressive* photos from a TD5 I was asked to repair. At least Johns has a proper chassis.

Great to see some quality welding and fab btw.
Isn't it these that are basically an angle iron frame with thin plates creating a box rather than the traditional thick metal chassis?
Yep. the Disco 2 chassis is a bloody travesty... a crappy sandwich of shaped formers & comparatively thin plate metal that's little more than a rot trap in the making. Although tbf Land Rover is in the business of selling cars with a service life of a decade or so nowadays, like most manufacturers. The old "built to last" philosophy is sadly long gone in most aspects of life. And my Disco is 23 years old now, so I'm prepared to cut the buggers a little bit of slack.
On the road:
1998 Disco 4.0 V8 (manual)
1994 Vauxhall Calibra 3.0 V6

Running but need fettling:

1986 Honda CBX750F
1991 Maserati 222 SE
1990 Yamaha XJ900F

Tax & MOT-exempt, woohoo!

1982 Suzuki GSX1100SZ Katana

The thing looked mint on the top, the new owner who I had to break the news to admitted it was a bit* wobbly on the drive there. No way I was attempting to repair that, it was utterly fucked and twisted so I couldn't trust things to go back in the right place.

Folded sheet steel that's just split and parted, utter rubbish for a chassis.

Blimey, that's a little crispy.
Are galvanised chassis available? I wonder how much needs to be undone to swap the body over

That was in 2019, I think I had a quick look and couldn't see it as an option. Money wise it wouldn't have been worth it back then either?

Me or John?
Where to do it is my issue. I've nowhere under cover to do any work and outside this time of year isn't much fun. I don't think a Matbro would lift a Disco either and I'd have to strengthen up the trestles! Sat on the floor with bollocks getting rained on with gobs of molten metal isn't a joyous event.

I spent an unhappy year one week doing the rear chassis on a Range Rover 'classic' when it was about ten years old, they have always rusted for fun.

I have been gardening which took two runs to the tip in the VW T5. I then did a bit of stone wall building before a shopping trip in the Ami. Those French think of everything, I have just found the handy bottle holder for my vodka.

I probably should try cleaning up the brown rust stains now.

Front subframe should be going this morning as it's sold. Need to find a home for the rear axle otherwise that'll be weighed in.

Mrs SiC is quite keen I don't fill the driveway too quickly again (!)

I might get the Boxster out though as I keep forgetting to cancel the tax, so might as well have it out and usable.
