My camper takes precedence, too. It is not necessarily the vehicle I am fondest of but it is fundamental to our "summers" and is literally a home from home. It is also one of those cars that once you have sold it, abandoned it or consigned it to being a "project" becomes something you never seem to be able to afford to replace. At least your MGB is underway - it is one of those cars I wish I had experienced but I know how beguiling a cheap one can be until you take the carpets out.....
There's a great long bar in Rock & Roll heaven.......

Hmmm that's not strictly true. The Swiss shot down both Allied and German aircraft that were violating their airspace, and border skirmishes with the Germans allegedly took place throughout the war.The Reverend Bluejeans wrote: ↑Mon Oct 28, 2019 6:54 pm Because I can.
Plus the Swiss are clever. All that Nazi gold and not a single shot fired.

That's brilliant the bASe is alive again.
Totally agree on the SORN thing too, I've got a bike in bits in my kitchen & it's been there way too long to remember what each pile of nuts etc is for.

Re: What did you do today?
Regarding never taking a vehicle off the road,me and hooli had that discussion when we rewired the trike. I was planning to cancel tax and insurance and leave till after Xmas. I didn't and hooli helped me rewire it. If I'd have left it,the insurance would need renewing in February and I'd have put off insuring it till I'd tested it again in June. By which point it would have been off the road for a year. I'm thankful I didn't take that route. Glade to see the ace of base is getting back.

Re: What did you do today?
I took the boat out on a small river near me (Glen) expecting it to be much wider than usual.
Unfortunately while I was stopped at the pub mid voyage they opened the sea lock at the end and let out a greater than usual amount of water so that I ended up having to reverse the car right into it to get the boat out. In the event, I need not have bothered with going to the river at all, this was the road home -

Yup.
My Dolly 1850HL has been sat in a field for 4 years and last I checked the floors had fallen out. The 1300 has now been un-roadworthy for a year and chances of it getting an engine before next Spring are slim...

Re: What did you do today?
My Dolomite is not SORN but it's MOT has expired - however it is exempt. Which doesn't matter much when it's in quite a few pieces from rust prodding.

I've never had to redo tappets after a cam in a pinto.....and they were current for most of the time I was earning a living on the spanners so I've done a few. This one will want doing because it doesn't sound as nice as it shouldDodgeRover wrote: ↑Mon Oct 28, 2019 9:15 pm Well done on getting it done and back together, re it sounding possibly a bit Cammy -
Did you run the cam in when you first started it? There's normally a list of things to do to break it in.
Mine needed the valve clearances re setting after, 500 miles. IME Number 3 exhaust will always require adjusting, it's the most difficult one.
I know some swear by various concoctions for new cams, usually yank stuff though?

Time to weigh one or both of those in then. Scrap cars are of little use to anyone. A breaking ad of Ebay and FB might liberate some cash.captain_70s wrote: ↑Tue Oct 29, 2019 6:22 pmYup.

He then spent a couple of days welding it up. I mean it's still fucked but its currently legally fucked. That Acclaim is scrap. It's rusted out, finished, job done. It will never be a decent (or safe) car again short of spending thousands on a serious reconstruction and it will never be valuable, ever. I dread to think what would happen to it if you were rear ended in traffic - it would fold up like a Kitkat wrapper.
It's absolutely fucked. Surely you can see this? Don't waste your time!
