The one of the old Doris outside the shop puzzles me....

I'd always associated Cornetto with late 1970s at least but here it is being advertised in pre-decimal (Feb 1971) Britain....

Brief perusal of Unilever's website confirms they were first produced in 1959 although interestingly it adds that the patented chocolate-lined cornet part was a 1976 innovation at which point production away from the Italian originator seems to have become possible.

I certainly don't remember Cornettos as early as the photograph evidences (and with only 6d to spend each week that is probably unsurprising).....
Just one Cornetto
Give it to me

The luggable phone at the bottom of that ad was identical to the item I first got when bailiffing and that was as late as 1991.

Makes a hard man humble ...
Austin Allegro in Thailand - 1979.

Assembled locally from kits - many thousands of Allegros found a home in Thailand (and many survive) - helping swell total Allegro exports to over 200,000 (approx. one third of production).
In the mid '70s Japanese cars were not quite as all-conquering as they would soon become in the far east, and some say the Allegro's chubby looks were a plus in Asian markets.

It's nice to see this advert from "Ley-Thai Motors" making reference to Austins of the past - in the same way the Morris adverts (posted earlier today) feature the "Bullnose" Oxford.

Stolen from Austin Allegro Thailand on FB
