Hello all,
Got a problem with my Sierra.
Started about 2 weeks ago-steering wobble at certain speed just as if the wheels were not balanced. Had a look-no weights loose-jacked it up - no play anywhere. Ok for a while then it came back. Swapped wheels front to back-ok again for a while-checked all steering suspension components again and no play evident. Again ok for a while but now back this morning. It's exactly the type of wobble through the steering wheel you get with an unbalanced wheel.
Car was mot'd in December where they changed a track rod end.
Any advice greatly appreciated.

Re: Steering wobble
I remember our Sierra estate needed the wheels balanced on the vehicle to not be vibrating.
I would check that TRE first though - did they check the tracking at the same time?

Re: Steering wobble
Did Sierra rammel have a box or rack?

A rack, seem to remember they were about £30 and took half an hour to change. Those were the days…

Re: Steering wobble
I'm sure I recall bushes in the lower arms, where the anti roll bar fits as wearing fast on Sierras. Once that's worn the arm can bounce back n forth giving interesting results.

Check the track control arm inner bushes. Check the outer one- bear in mind they are compliance types and move a lot.
I'd also check the front dampers- basic bounce test

Many thanks, changed the lower arm bushes and arms last year but will check for wear. Only thing changed within the last month was the track rod end-will put another one on.

Re: Steering wobble
I've just remembered when I had my Sierras that these bushes where star shaped so didn't last. You could buy a HD version that was round so lasted. My first Sierra needed them replaced at 35k when I bought it. It was only five years old at the time.

Re: Steering wobble
In that case check the brakes. The terrible steering wobble on my XJR was seized front callipers.
