Re: Found pics
My 1961 Impala had a 'Y' plate as it was imported in whenever that was, 1982? The Minor does have the look of an ex-MOD vehicle as said by mr animals, they did have quite a few of them.

Re: Found pics
Quite simply any car first registered for use on British roads between Aug 1st 1976 and July 31st 1977 would have been given an "R" suffix by the issuing authority. It is very probably ex-MoD but could easily be a personal import or one of the (admittedly very rare) occurences of a Minor having been built from parts and subsequently submitted for registering as a new vehicle. Stuff that got plate-raped back then was also given the current suffix.....
As with all these things the above isn't hard-and-fast as some licensing authorities were known to issue back numbers on occasion but generally the rule can be relied upon....
It was when the date-letter became a prefix rather than a suffix that age-related plates began to be issued, along of course with the infamous Q prefix. I brought a BMW into the UK from Germany in 1984 and got clobbered with one which made it a bitch to sell.....

#angrydickyalert - Hampshire at the back of that car lot....
The pub view is the Hunter's Moon in Exmoor, think it is still operating but I went there back in the 80s and it seemed to have a timewarp car park then...

Re: Found pics
A view along Piccadilly towards Piccadilly Circus in 1964.
Note the double yellow lines along the kerb which were relatively new at that time. They came into force in 1960.
A neat Daimler Dart Convertible is waiting in the queue.
