Building the Leg End. The Old Jag thread.

Talk about your cars etc here. Keep it sort of sensible and on topic please.

I think they look cheap and plasticky. I didn't realise they were so expensive. Another driver I can point and laugh at in my 107.

F-Type has a dreadful reliability record. Yet the XK predecessor didn't.

Anyone remember the XJ220?

Back in the mid 90s when I was selling telecoms a client of mine bought one.

Here's his obituary.

https://www.wirralglobe.co.uk/news/7433 ... -in-spain/

He owned the Telegraph group of petrol stations before selling out to Shell for many millions back in 1992. His dad started the company back in the 60s with a petrol station next to the Telegraph pub in Wallasey hence the name. Even then he was a fat fucker who had to get the mechanics at his dad's garage to weld supports under the seat of his Corsair after it collapsed.

After he sold the garage chain he went on a spending spree buying an expensive house in Caldy, demolish it, and then building the largest house in the area on the land featuring an indoor shooting range. He was a bit of a pain as a client wanting a commercial phone system installed but with "Barbara Cartland" ceramic phones and even an extension in his lift. When he popped his clogs at 57 his wife sold the house to former Liverpool and Everton manager Rafa Benitez.

He was one of those XJ220 customers who tried to worm out of the deal with Jaguar as he claimed that he was ordering a 4WD V12, not the 2WD V6 that Jaguar eventually made. Eventually, he gave up and accepted delivery of the 90s hypercar only to discover that he couldn't fit in it! At the time, his wife Lynne owned a 2CV fitted with the cherished plate L5. His missus is actually a really nice lady and I wish I'd had the good sense to offer her a shoulder to cry on after his death.

The XJ220 sat there gathering dust until she sold it at a knock down price when XJ220 values were on the floor.

Aye I remember them and the disappointment when it came out with half the engine missing. At least that's how I always thought of the V6 compared to the missing V12.

Wasn't the rumour always that the 6R4 had the same engine?

That's my understanding as well.
I think that Williams were involved in developing it.
