Completely illegal, although the practice is still rife. The only way you can sell the car as 'sold as seen' is to put VAT across the selling price and insist its uplifted from the premises. No test drives, nothing. Thats it. Anything else and its retailed.

Some are regional I suspect. Most of mine are from workshop/ bombsite trader types..the usual suspects .

The traders I knew used to refer to burgundy as 'dustcart red' because at some point in the distant past Kent county council painted their bin lorries that colour and it remained deeply unsaleable.
Also, a stolen car was 'moody' or 'chorley'. I suspect that is more gypsy slang though.
Any auction was always referred to as 'the block' as the destination of a car, but less often as the source.

Local gypsies here used to say "chore" for nicking something, I believe it is the actual Romany term.
