Eddie Honda's wheels of steel (and occasionally alloy)

Talk about your cars etc here. Keep it sort of sensible and on topic please.

You went for snazzy new shite. Still got an old one sitting here for you.
No, someone between the shippers managed that. It was shitely consolidated into a box that was too big.

Whilst it is in one way snazzy new shite, it's the same design (bar the pressed steel base) as the snazzy old shite they were churning out back in the 1950s. It's also cast steel, not SG iron.

Reluctantly, I got a new one as the Realtoe isn't fixed to piss off to France to seek a used, all steel S&M which are the dog's bollocks, but haven't been made since 2010 as Dolex bought them. I still might do that and get a S&M 62 or 92 / 150.

The problem with the Records is they don't have very long slides for big stuff. I alway found I needed the jaws to open a wee bit more. I was eyeballing a few No.75 and they were silly money for the later SG iron versions that sellers where trying to pass off as the original all steel versions. The 75 is handy for having the 5¼" jaws offset to the left side for long things.

The DPD man did his usual and abandoned it on the doorstep early doors. I don't mind this as it saves fannying around going to the depot. However I never got a text to say it was coming.

This is probably because it's a Colissimo job (La Poste parcels, so I'm thinking they are like ParcelFarce) and they either get handled by DPD this end or by An Post.

You can see here the minimal ColisExpat tape has been broken.

And DPD have done a patch up job on the oversized box used by them.

The two boxes from the original order from Sobrico are in there. They shipped the base and the vice separately.

This box is unscathed.

But overkill with a load of grey paper stuffed in it for this tiny rotating base.

The main box with the vice in (as packaged by the manufacturer) has a break in the side.

The whole vice has shifted inside. Possibly after being packed into the bigger box as that also has a breakout hole.

Haven't seen jaws open that wide for a while.

I wonder if the rotating base is breakable when the jaws are at full reach?

Don't talk to me about parcel force. I had my son here to receive a delivery of £160 worth of grass seed.
They claim they attempted delivery and I'm now expected to pick it up from the Perth depot during office hours 40 miles away.

I'm sure it is. It looks like 3mm plate. Y'know, like those wanky Land Rover clutch forks.

I have an old record 75 in the shed at the ex Mrs place. Excellent bit of kit.

JIZZ UPDATE - NCT TIME

Well trying to book a NCT slot online continues to be a mass fuckabout with appointment slots starting 17 MAY 2023 as of now. Applus are blaming this that and the next thing and apparently are shipping in 22 EL TESTERS from their ITV operations in SPAIN and a further 44 testers from the PHILIPPINES are awaiting visas.

https://www.rte.ie/news/ireland/2022/10 ... r-testing/

Obviously they can't throw up slots unless they know testers are going to turn up and not be on the Pat 'n' Mick, so you have to play them visit the website several times a day and move fast game. After looking for a few days at the start of the month, I seized on a block of slots that appeared on the 6th/7th October for the 24th onwards and opted for an early doors Sat appointment at 8.10am yesterday.

In preparation, I only got round to give the car the most cursory of glances and aborted attempt at doing something useful on Friday night as the weather was dry. I pulled the bumper off with the intention of swapping the nearside headlamp lens for a new one, but gave up as I really need a tube of Tigerseal and to get the hot air gun out to soften the old shite up if there was any hope of separating the lens from the back bowl. Having clipped the bumper back in again, I checked the oil (low again) and filled the washer bottle up. Despondent, I couldn't be arsed to even bother checking the lights.

Whilst I was down on the floor the front tyres were down near the wear bars and the outside edge, particularly of the nearside one was starting to feather off so I ordered another pair of Vredestein Quatrac tyres, These have done about 38k in 2 years and I haven't bothered rotating them this time round. New ones will go on the back and the rears will move for their turn to wear out at the front. Had a look through the front spokes and will get some new pads and discs on it soon enough too. This is all on top of the slightly overdue 175k service.

Fall out of bed at 7am and the mini Hondas are wanting in on the action too. So I drive down with them and get there for 7.50am and whilst their is activity, nothing has actually started yet. 4 men are sitting/standing in the waiting area to check-in, along with one women. Just after 8am, fat bloke starts call the names on the list and checking 2 or 3 of them in before the receptionist arrives at 8.05. She continues the job from their with the woman up next, who after having her ID checked and keys taken, is politely asked to check her appointment email. Yup after a bit of underbreath swearing the daft bint has got the wrong day - I sure the rest of us in the waiting area were pissing ourselves in our heads!

I'll take that, it really should of had the OSF tyre down as a sub-3mm advisory too, but who cares?

Vredestein Quatrac is the replacement for Quatrac 5. You'd have thought 6 might be the next one, but nah, they've just come full circle.

Today's news...
