What did you do today?

Talk about your cars etc here. Keep it sort of sensible and on topic please.

Took the Jag back to the paint shop, they have had a jolly good go at fixing the door but they are prepared to respray it if I want. Thing is: it's very light dependant on wether it's a bit noticeable or very fucking noticeable so I'm gonna wait a week or so before committing.

So far, it looks okay...

I was invited to bring the Farina to a local Vintage Music Festival. It's been running since 2013 but this year was the first time they had a vehicle display. Great afternoon which started with a couple of Swing Bands playing some Miller, Goodman, Basie and Ellington, displays of 20's Charleston and 30's Lindy Hop dancing and finishing off with a Busty Redhead lady in a 50's dress with her Band singing old R'n'B covers- Big Joe Turner, Bo Diddley, Etta James etc.

The 1962 Minx Covertible has been owned by the same woman for 58 years. She worked for a Rootes Dealer in Harrow and had known the car since it was new- she bought it when it was part exchanged in 1964.

Insurance pricing is ridiculous. At least it justifies what is the more suitable option.

Whilst the Matiz passed the MoT last month the tester told me the back brakes needed adjustment, something I'd already guessed. "There'll be a 10mm nut under the centre console" was his remarks. Due to being retired and holidays getting in the way I finally got around to it today. It actually needs 11 and 14 mm spanners to adjust the cable but first job, remove rear drums (hub bearings have to come off) to adjust the shoes.
Well, second job was remove the lip on the drum that 120k miles has caused. I don't have a lathe or milling machine so Mr Angry was carefully* employed.
Shoes adjusted, drums slid on and off without problems, retorque the hub nut and adjust. Seems to work OK, handbrake holds on four notches, rather than seven!.

Then this turned up;

Tidied up the shed and found a quarter-full tin of Bilt Hamber. Not enough to do anything useful with but I have flooded the rear jacking points on the van with it as one of them was welded up a while back and they filled it with something or other but now I know whats in there.....

Still got all the original sill plugs and jacking point bungs - quite unusual on a 35 year old camper van. I think there will need to be some fuller inspection of those areas later on, though.....

Quite ridiculous, that's so low a price. Just how do they do it?

just had to go to Halfords for anti-freeze, the orange stuff as I had a red warning light for low coolant level. Poxy Jag needs the orange shite whereas the Merc uses the other type of which I have a fucking gallon! I did check the level at Daddyhole while Chester settled his weary arse on the backseat and Bella pestered some poor sod to throw her ball for her, and it looked okay to me but had to actually read the owner manual to see where the levels are supposed to be as it's really not obvious.

Apparently, the level marks are inside the top of the bottle so the cap has to come off.

Why Mr Jaguar? Every other car with a clear bottle has the marks visible on the side somewhere, quick glance and it's job jobbed. Not this fucker, can only do it when its cold and a tiny faff compared to a quick glance.

Find where the max level is and draw a line on the tank with a sharpie.
