Given the miles you do with it I bet you could stretch that to 10k changes - might be worth getting an oil analysis done next time you do a change just to see if it had degraded at all over that interval.

Oil can be completely fucked in 500 miles. Very short runs, especially in winter, won't heat the oil up enough to boil off condensation, which shags the oil.DodgeRover wrote: ↑Sun Jul 24, 2022 9:31 pm Given the miles you do with it I bet you could stretch that to 10k changes - might be worth getting an oil analysis done next time you do a change just to see if it had degraded at all over that interval.
I used to ride 120 miles a day all through the year. I changed the oil just before winter and just before summer (about a 10,000 mile interval) and it came out darker, but still looked good.
It's why I never bought low mileage bikes for commuting on.
If you don't ride a decent distance each day, try and do a long run (about 50 miles) to get the oil hot, and to boil off the condensation that collects in the exhausts. Your bike will thank you, and it gives you an hour or so to enjoy yourself.

It's more to do with keeping it perfectly clean, the barrels are lined with something that's easy to ruin with dirty oil. I forget what. Plus of course it's air cooled which apparently degrages the oil much quicker.DodgeRover wrote: ↑Sun Jul 24, 2022 9:31 pm Given the miles you do with it I bet you could stretch that to 10k changes - might be worth getting an oil analysis done next time you do a change just to see if it had degraded at all over that interval.
Besides £35-40 every 4k isn't a huge investment to keep it running sweet. The book figure is 3,750 miles or 5k km. So I picked 4k as it's easy to remember.

An early ambulance operated by St John. The patient was placed in a coffin-like sidecar and the lid was closed for transport. There was however a couple of hatches.
Would make a good rally tent.

Re: Two wheels good.
I got the sump for my 14 welded today. I expected to leave it with them but he just did it when I arrived. Looks neat and only £20.
No pics yet as I'd not taken the sump plug with me so they couldn't check it. Hence it's now on top of a bucket in the garage full of degreaser as it's the thinnest liquid I could think of without buying any. Doesn't seem to leak but I'll leave it for the afternoon to be sure.
I'd best order the gasket now so I can refit it soon.

Fired first kick with no choke. Never done that before without choke.
The old one looks original with nearly 15k on it.

The thread is stripped on this mirror. Can you get helicoils small enough? Would I need a bush to get it to mirror size again?
