What did you do today?

Talk about your cars etc here. Keep it sort of sensible and on topic please.

Bought fuel today for the Merc, super green no less and the price has gone down! paid £2.05 the last time (filled the Jag with the bloody stuff by mistake!) today it was a mere £2.00.

Last night Bella and I washed the Jag and the Merc, Bella kept sticking her head in the soap suds of the wash bucket and then getting in the way of the hose... accidentally of course! We had a massive fight about getting dried where the only real loser was the towel which ended up severely deranged.

Chester had gone to bed and wisely, stayed there!

Tonight she and I have polished and then waxed the back of the Jag, it's a bloody big car and although the sun had gone home, it was still effin' hot so we quit while ahead. Hubert finally brought back my code reader while we were doing this and he was amazed that Bella would/will stay with me while I fuck about without wandering off or being a pain. Damn good dogs labradogs(ish) evenifthey are a bitdemanding when it comes to play time.

Had a weekend up in North Norfolk in the Farina. The Club were having a Holiday in the area and I took part in a Saturday evening Road Run from Holt to Wells for a Fish and Chip supper, then we attended the Transport Day at the North Norfolk Railway on the Sunday which had around 200 cars on display plus many Classic Buses running services around the local area. Sadly I took few photos as too busy chatting to others. The Sunbeam Talbot 90, ZA Magnette and Austin 16 came down from Yorkshire to join us and all being well I'll be staying with the trio when they do a Tour of mid Wales next year.

Hopefully sorted out the wipers on the Cowley. They've been shit for years now, tried all kinds of NOS Trico arms and blades as well as some very expensive (and shit) new ones. Eventually, after going through boxes in the shed, I have cobbled up some adjustable arms with decent splines - stopped them from "adjusting" by crimping the clips shut - and resorted to replacing the rubbers rather than the actual blades. I did have some NOS Trico replacement rubbers but these were very reluctant to fit into the repro TEX carriers so some judicious bending and re-crimping was needed.

Gave it a rain test and they are definitely clearing miles better than before although I haven't done the 70mph fly-off challenge yet. Just in case, I have a spare pair of TEX blades in the boot together with the black modern pair that the car was equipped with to get through its first MOT when I got it back on the road. The best bit about this morning's efforts was zero cost - proving that one should never chuck anything out. Second best thing was not pushing a screwdriver blade into the palm of my hand.

What size blades are on the Cowley? The smaller blades in the Valeo Silencio range have fittings that work on classics. Don't have the pdf catalogue to hand, I'll try and find it later.

While not classic looking, you have the advantage of it being made by a manufacturer who is still used to making mass market rubber products that don't fail after a few months. I've got a set on my MGB and they work far better than any NOS or new blades I have tried.

Valeo Silencio V28 iirc it is a 28cm blade that I put on my MGB.

I specifically tried to avoid black arms and/or blades but will go down that route again if this last effort proves to be unsuccessful. Worth knowing, thanks...

I get that but I decided being able to see in a typical, sudden (Great) British downpour was more preferential than looking original after, like you, trying different classic options readily available nowadays.

Torrential rain was not so much of a problem - it was the light drizzly intermittent stuff that they seemed to struggle with and I had to constantly squirt the washers. It is better to see where one is going, I admit! The stuff I have found for the Minor is, eventually, very good but I couldn't get the blade length/arm configuration the Cowley needs...

There is such little chrome on the Cowley and no shine anywhere so it won't be hugely detrimental to Amy Winehouse and go back to black.....

I scored very low on the autie test. I’m cheerful, happy, confident, like meeting new people, chatty and largely sociable. What the fuck am I doing on this forum?
