I've not known that friction material to ever wear completely out either....

Not in my experience, certainly not on the modern compounds that are undoubtedly in my Pashley hubs.

This is quality engineering, make no mistake. Lightweight alloys, efficient linings, and notice the internal oil shield with drain hole to prevent excess oil from contaminating the linings. Also the pronounced lip on the outside for any excess oil to drip off.

Re: What did you do today?
Looking at the amount of sintering in those linings they're going to be hard! A softer compound may give a better stopping ability.
Would it be worth cutting a mud/ water grove into those linings to make them clear quicker in inclement conditions?
It's probably over kill as I'm more used to drum brakes being submerged in mud and streams whilst riding trials.

Shoes are enclosed and never really going to get a soaking. It's not like he'll be riding in the river.
That's the whole point of them on a utility cycle: no near death experiences on chromed steel rims.

Re: What did you do today?
About a fortnight ago one evening I went to lock the shed, and just thought to have a last look around before I went away for a while, in case there was anything else I needed. I was stunned to find a very young blackbird had taken up residence in the shed.
So small it was and good at blending in it’s a wonder I saw it at all. The blackbirds work so hard to rear their chicks (as do all birds), literally non-stop from dawn to dusk. Their last clutch fell victim to a marauding kestrel and it was devastating. There would have been more in a clutch than one but it seems that is all that survived from this second clutch.
I was concerned about its safety as they cannot fly when they first leave the nest. But, I couldn’t keep an eye on it all the time and had to leave anyway. I didn’t expect it to survive.
Fast forward to today and I was stunned again to find what I am certain is the same youngster come back to the shed for another rest!
Looking very healthy and grown a bit in the meantime, now flying reasonably well but still learning the ropes. It could exit the shed unaided this time after I freed it from the net curtain.
Dad is still busy feeding the youngster (don’t know what happened to the female) and they soon knew it was bird food bonanza time again.
So the youngster is safe and well, is frequently in the garden looking at me with its bright young eyes, and the father sits in the tree or on the roof singing his heart out. So I can sit out there in the evening with a beer and be as happy as a king.

I believe he does. The car park has room for 30 cars or his Impala.mercrocker wrote: ↑Thu Jun 16, 2022 4:28 pm I think Mr Impala frequents there, seem to remember seeing it in one of his posts.....
