No there isn't - good point - and there's no real way of making one . On the other hand a fabricated cell like that has foam inside and would be much less vulnerable to rear end shunt than the current tank as well as a lot less spiltty and explody (I think).Hooli wrote: ↑Tue May 31, 2022 8:12 pmIs there a proper firewall between the boot & interior?mercrocker wrote: ↑Tue May 31, 2022 7:59 pm
Why should you worry about that? It looks like a workable solution with the huge added benefit of being clean and untainted. Secure, too. I wouldn't think twice about such a solution in any of my cars.

What's so difficult about getting a return fitting added to the existing tank anyway?

Re: Stupid questions about motorised conveyances
Possibly/probably a stupid question but would something like this affect the MoT exemption? I'd guess not but it might not harm just to check.

Re: Stupid questions about motorised conveyances
Need to empty it, remove it, purge of fumes and then drill it.
Could be done by modifying the sender/pickup but I have no faith in my mad skillz and no clue where to take it.
There is a custom sender/pickup I could buy from the USA but it costs as much as the replacement tank and would need modifying to fit my tank.
Existing tank is 54 years old.

I think you're allowed safety mods but good point.LynehamHerc wrote: ↑Tue May 31, 2022 8:57 pm Possibly/probably a stupid question but would something like this affect the MoT exemption? I'd guess not but it might not harm just to check.

Fair enough, sounds like it's a reasonable plan then.AMCrebel wrote: ↑Tue May 31, 2022 8:59 pmNeed to empty it, remove it, purge of fumes and then drill it.

Re: Stupid questions about motorised conveyances
From what I've seen you'd have to build The Munster's Koach out of a Ford Prefect before it affected MoT exemption (or free RFL). Replacing a time-served and NLA fuel tank with a safer modern option is neither a structural nor irreversible change nor one that involves, engine, frame, chassis or drivetrain - key factors in determining originality for DVLA purposes.
There's a great long bar in Rock & Roll heaven.......

Re: Stupid questions about motorised conveyances
I forgot - honourary mention to Paul who suggested plumbing it into the filler neck - another possibility but not without potential pitfalls for an inept git like me - and I worry about how it might affect ability to fill up.

Re: Stupid questions about motorised conveyances
What's stuck? All parts are available from expensive to cheapo pattern parts. Some say to always avoid Britpart, but I haven't had a problem with their braking parts.Eddie Honda wrote: ↑Tue May 31, 2022 7:44 pm Paging Drum or other LR botherers...
What it like overhauling the brakes (that are stuck on) on a Defender (1990)? Is anything horrendously expensive?

Re: Stupid questions about motorised conveyances
I've never had an issue with Britpart stuff, either on the crying pumpkin (classic RR) or my Discovery 3.
