What did you do today?

Talk about your cars etc here. Keep it sort of sensible and on topic please.

Last Thursday I was followed by a late model P6 as I drove into that there Spalding, it was a nice sight in my rear view mirror.

I decided to see if my Impala would wake up after its hibernation, think it went to sleep in September. So turned the engine over by hand, tightened up hoses and stuff, reconnected the battery and then into the interior, put the key into the switch and contact. I always let it turn over until the oil light goes out, takes a while as the fuel has to come a long way but when the fuel reached the centre carb it burst into life because it's an old Chevy and that's what they do. After a couple of minutes letting it settle I moved it outside the garage to let it run for a bit and check for leaks. Naturally there is one, a very small leak near the fuel pump but I'm not sure of it's fuel or water, I'll have another look as and when I can be arsed. Ran good though, happily idling away sounding splendidly Murrican V8. Photo there just because I felt like it.

After a lot of swearing, pulling, pushing, banging and eventually sticking a piece of a tree in it, I got the bonnet on the Matiz open. Finally decided that I really should fix the release mechanism, 10 minutes later and it appears fixed.
I then put a booster pack on the 206c (must use it more), before setting off to see a mate and collect essential* supplies.

Bloody hell those badges have shot up in price but they were always silly money. The spare wheels on the boot lid were an option to make more room in the boot, they do have a badge that fits into the hole if the wheel isn't fitted. I had loads of p6's everything from a 2.0SC auto up to the 3500S. My favorite was a series 1 TC as they had the cleanest lines without all the extra bulges and chrome strips. The quality was far better on the early cars as well, the later BL ones weren't the best.

Trip to and from the house today, did pretty well on the economy. This engine is really starting to loosen up.

Found also this- missing screws that hold the carb together on the Pontiac- that'll be why it was so variable, that was a massive air leak.

Realised it's been just over 3 years I've owned this now! I'm a fair bit fatter now too thanks to lack of exercise over lockdowns. 🙈

MOT booked for week after next. Will need another service too but want to get a few suspension bits done as well. Top mounts creak and I suspect the wheel alignment is out. Plan to get all that done separately. Might use the Porsche specialist down in Honiton that my mum uses - even if it's going to be a bit on the pricey side.

Would need to check but reckon I've probably done around 10k in these 3 years. Not bad going considering we had lockdown during that.

The guy's in Honiton are really good, but when they did mine they said to make sure all the bolts come undone on the suspension arms as they can get really expensive if they have to cut them off to be able to set up the alighnment. They are very honest about costs or at least they were with me, as they checked the car over then told me to change a couple of arms first before they did the alighnment.

I do need to get my top mounts replaced first. Creaky and I suspect sticking.
