Re: A lucky* Ford Escape - Parts Darts :(
IAC and TPS arrived from Rock Auto, fitted and whilst it feels sharper it's still running like shit. Even disconnected the battery so it did a relearn on the trims.
Pulled the 3 vac pipes off the inlet manifold one at a time and blanked them and it made no difference.
Arse.
Length of tube and listen for inlet leaks is the next thing

Problem is I'm working in the street, wife needs it to run about in and I've got at least a thousand other things to be doing with my time
Currently trying to strip out our kitchen so I can carry on with demo but all the cupboards are full so I'm having to move everything into boxes.

Re: Ford Escape - Misfire be gone!
I admitted efeat with this and dropped it into the local garage.
In the end they pressurised the inlet manifold with smoke and found a couple of leaks. Running lovely now.
Annoying thing is I had sprayed those areas with WD-40 trying to find if it was sucking air.

I've not heard of pressurisation tests like that before, but at least it found it.

Re: Ford Escape - Misfire be gone!
It was a new one on me, obvious when you think about it though.
After chucking all the new bits at it it does drive much better, it's amazing how all the other little bits have changed the way it drives, cumulative degredation I guess.
I'm hoping they all this will improve the fuel consumption, the last one we had would regularly do 25+ mpg on a run this has been lower consistently

I never mind chucking new bits needlessly on a keeper. I do tend towards random diagnosis, though! Glad it got sorted.

I keep meaning to get one of those smoke machines but it is so rare that you ever use one it seems a bit pointless. I bet the garage are well pleased finding a use for the machine and actually fixing it. That is the sort of job that gives a lot of satisfaction when you finally find the fault.
