Why the fuck did they buy one with a manual gearbox? Like having a dog and barking yourself.
Ate made the master cylinder. One of millions.
Thought the mention of a manual 5-series would make you come out of the shadows.
I ask them the same thing everytime. Dad dislikes autos and changing between a manual and auto cars. This is despite working in America for many years.
I point out that new cars will be all auto soon and he'll have to get used to it. But they're going to keep it for years, so probably a manual box is going to survive better and require less expensive repair than any old auto.
They didn't spec it though. Brand new pre-reg order that was done for a dealer to meet targets. Was a month old with 50 miles on the clock when they got it. Iirc list price was in the 45k sort of price point with the options it had (not actually that many...). They paid around 25k. There was an auto one also pre-reg at the time but silver and sold anyway by the time they went back. Did intend to test drive it to see if they could live with an auto but tbh they'd probably ended up with the manual.
Probably going to be a useful car in 15-20 years time when someone wants to convert a 330i or something to manual.
Having passed the MoT last month and having fixed the advisories (well I got the garage to do the driveshaft as the £45 they wanted for labour really wasn't worth the time and effort I'd have needed to do it) I treated the 206cc to a service. Nothing much to report, plugs had a gap you could have driven a bus through, the pollen filter had actually been changed at some point,

but it was the soggy bottom (you know what a soggy bottom feels like) of the air filter that worried me.

Couldn't see why it's happened, no obvious problems with the pipework but will be watching it.

Is there a drain bung blocked in the air box?
Airbox has a vertical pipe in the bottom that leads to the resonator box below it which has a vertical pipe out of the side back up to the inlet by the headlight. So a bit odd
Met up with a Farina owning friend and took his current project, a 1961 Wolseley 15/60 for a spin. It was left to him in a will 4 years ago and he has recommissioned it for daily use around London. Excellent mechanically but plenty of giffer filler repairs and rubbish paint matching but he intends to leave it that way. Lovely original interior and various period accessories too.
It has lived in the capital its whole life- was originally registered as GWE 2 which were the initials of its first owner in Croydon and has now moved north of the river to Highgate.
I scored very low on the autie test. I’m cheerful, happy, confident, like meeting new people, chatty and largely sociable. What the fuck am I doing on this forum?
15/60s are the only posh finnies, too - Rileys and Magnettes had their fins chopped back right from the start.
That looks lovely, just right as it sits. My first car memories are from my Grandad's 15/60 before I even started school. I was 4 years old and so was the car and even then the rear wings were going, I remember poking at the rust when he wasn't looking.....
There's a great long bar in Rock & Roll heaven.......
The Wolseley was the first one launched as well as sharing the dubious honour of being the last Farina built (along with the Oxford). It is the variant that, to me, makes the most sense. Single carb and posh interior is the best combination for the comfortable but rather undynamic chassis and fits perfectly the demographic of the buyers.
