Seeing the Porsche prices reminds me my plumber friend and his son are running cars in the Porsche club challenge next season after he impressed the instructor at a trackday enough to get him to be second driver in his well used genuine RUF.
Hopefully I'll get photos of the builds of both cars

Re: EBay Finds
There is something weird with car and classic auctions as they would most likely beat those prices. Mini's, Minor's and all MG's are pretty much starter classics and priced that way. The lower end of the market will always take the biggest hit. The 10 to 20k market is still pretty strong even for projects if it is the right car. People with the big money want good interesting cars rather than ones where you have a choice of hundreds. The bloke who bought my Fiat could well afford to spend double and to him 5 grand was no money to keep his wife happy who had fallen in love with the car. The smaller auction houses just aren't getting serious money any more, I am sure you could buy a few out of DVCA and flip them on for a profit at one of the bigger London based auctions.

Re: EBay Finds
Possibly C&C auctions are similar to eBay where they get a lot of visibility and that helps increase views, thus prices? Or perhaps a perception of better quality and people getting carried away?
I can see the market for rarer stuff being still popular. Especially as many of the "starter" classics probably have been bought up from money saved from COVID (commuting/eating out/etc) and that has now been spent.
I still find Facebook the go to place for the best bargains. The only reason why I made a new account (I never accepted the GDPR on my old and they threatened to delete - but never have), just so I could browse FB Marketplace and the associated groups. Their search seems to be designed as much as they could for you not to find stuff though. Possibly helping keeping prices low.
One day I'll get over my mental financial buying limits and spend a bit more on a car. Every vehicle I've bought for well over half a decade has been £4k and under. The last time over that was in 2012 when I paid (iirc) 6.8k for my '07 Civic. I certainly have never spent more than £8k ever on a car either.
But for now I'm happy as a pig wallowing around in (cheap) shit.

Good god, did you see how cheap this went for, I know it's hideous but had to be worth more than thatSiC wrote: ↑Tue Oct 12, 2021 2:39 pm The hammer prices at this reasonably major auction were a bit of a surprise.

Re: EBay Finds
That was insanely cheap I would of taken it on for that money. The quality of the workmanship on the body is really good considering how ugly it is but for less than a grand it was a bargain

Re: EBay Finds
Maybe it was a bit more and they typoed it? £8880 maybe?
Unless online auction price, it would be a weird amount to go under the hammer at.

That would possibly make more sense, although it won't help when/if it come up for sale again

How much of a liability do we reckon this will be?
Had a lot done but not done many miles for quite a while.
