Re: Squire's voitures
Will you idiot bunch of saddos start your own topic for discussing pointless mindless unintelligible shit. If I had the time I’d delete most of these shitposts.

Re: Squire's voitures
Regarding the special tool - I was struggling to visualise what you meant but remembered that the Minor has floating halfshafts - an unusually expensive engineering solution common to most if not all BLMC cars when Ford just pressed the wheel bearing straight onto the halfshaft.

Re: Squire's voitures
An important milestone was reached today - changing the damaged backplate for the good one. In order to do this the half shaft and hub complete with bearing must be removed, so my special service tool was deployed in conjunction with the puller, and it worked exactly as I’d expected. Couldn’t have gone any better.
And so I changed the backplate which had been carefully prepared - the vast majority of time and effort is in careful preparation - and cleaned the dismantled parts before putting it all back together. I’ve just got to transfer all the remaining brake parts over and fill the axle with GL-4 EP90 and then it will be good to go.

Re: Squire's voitures
Been cracking on with 948 cylinder head from the Gold Seal engine I bought from eBay early this year. History and mileage unknown but it appears to have had a hard, short life. It was deemed fit to remove from whatever vehicle it was in along with the gearbox so I imagine the vehicle was scrapped and these parts retained for future use. Whatever, the piston crowns and combustion chambers were badly choked with carbon and the valve gear and head had that black gunge you only get from poor quality oil that hasn’t been changed as often as it should. Not shown as I cleaned everything up a while ago and today lapped in the valves. But this gives an idea of the state of things:
Inlet valve seats only required Fine paste but the exhausts warranted the use of Coarse first.
The valves themselves are in good order, exhibiting only minor scuffing to areas of the stems, which is quite normal and acceptable.
There are signs of slight VSR on the exhaust seats along with some pitting which would benefit from the use of a cutting tool (which I don’t have). Not the end of the world as ultimately I’ll install the 1098 head with its larger valves after a 60 thou skim. Now, as it stands, this one will run again.
