Ness Point. Lowestoft. Most eastern point of England. Nothing there at all. Not even anywhere to get a tea. Lovely view of the back of the Birds Eye Factory.

Nice day, met my mate at Diss. Went over to Lowestoft hoping for something more dramatic. Bit* disappointing. On to Great Yarmouth for fish and chips on the front. Not at all disappointing. Then on to Norwich for a mooch in the Harley dealers then home.
Just as I got back, put the bike in the garage, the heavens opened up. Lucky boy.

First ftp about 3 miles away in Cullercoats. He rang saying it was making some horrible grinding noises so he pulled over and I went to get him in the van. It sounded like the starter was stuck on,the chain had snapped or the gearbox or whatever was shafted.
We got home and he removed the kickstart and side cover. It driven by a V belt so no chain.
We discovered the toothed wheel that the starter motor had come loose, had jammed the starter and was rattling like fuck.
Easy free fix. Just tightened the bolt up and put it back together.
He was on his way to my mothers in Bedlington 15 miles away to stay the night. I've told him to do 20 miles within pushing distance to test it as I'm away for a pint and if it breaks down again he'll be fucked.

He does know to keep it under lock and key or preferably indoors when not being ridden doesn't he?

Yup. It's it the covered, locked yard.
He's done another 10 miles around the doors with no trouble.
We have a footie game in Seahouses tomorrow with the lexarse then he's going to attempt the journey to Bedlington.

Tuesday ride out. Sudbury, Finchingfield, High Beech Tea Hut, Newmarket Harley Davidson and the Moto Guzzi dealers in Stowmarket. Nice ride other than the fuckwit lunatic in an Audi TT making an unsighted overtake. Nearly a head on, lucky the road was just wide enough for me to hug the kerb. Closest I’ve been to a big off in years.

Took this out a wee spin last night. I'm still very impressed. However, the front end feels very budget (as you'd expect), mostly when you push on or over poor surfaces.

I'm not sure how much is down to the OEM fit dunlops. Some on the owners group claim the bike is transformed with better rubber. They don't feel dangerous or anything, just not terribly confidence inspiring. Perhaps it's the style of bike, and I'm used to having a bit more weight over the front end.

Dial it back a notch and it feels far happier cruising, and starts to make more sense. They've detuned the CBR500 lump for more low down torque, less top end and even two up it doesn't ever feel laboured at low speed. Just don't expect effortless overtaking without mashing down through the box......

If there's one thing I would change, it's that massive exhaust. It doesn't sound too bad for an OEM pipe but it looks awful, and a louder pipe would be more in keeping with the style of the bike. Honda are brilliant at making super smooth sewing machine esque lumps, when what you want here is a bit more drama. Plus it's so fecking massive it fouls my paddock stand....

Ultimately I bought it for the wife. Once she finishes doing her test and gets some miles on it she can decide if she wants a louder pipe or not.

I miss those roads. On sunny evenings I used to ride home from Tower Hill via Loughton, Abridge, the Ongars, The Rodings, Dunmow, Gt Bardfield, Finchingfield, Shalford Panfield, Braintree and then home.

Always stopped at a pub somewhere on route, especially after a sustained blast. Nothing better to accompany a pint of shandy and a fag than a bike engine ticking loudly as it cools down.

Incidentally, back in 1979 I used to live in Finchingfied, in the house to the right of the blue one in your photo.

He did the fifteen mile ride to my mothers in Bedlington yesterday. He plays for a Bedlington football team and has to go to training twice a week hence the reason he's mobile now. I refuse to take him because I told him to join a team here. I said if you do join he'll have to make his own way there. I don't mind taking him to the matches but fuck spoiling two evenings a week too.
He's setting back off to come back home at two pm. The bike has been running a little rough but seems to be getting better the more he uses it.

I’d occasionally do similar trying to avoid the ‘dirty dozen’ (A12 for anyone who wasn’t a London courier. “Two up the dirty dozen for you. Chelmsford and Colchester. Call me when you’ve got them on board.”)
Nice house.
