The Standard 8 was 803cc as well - the origin of the 1500 lump.

Although from the owners description I'd go with timing chain failure & valve stuck in a piston crown.

The Triumph 1500 is too long a stroke for the design although the rot set in when they ‘improved’ the 1300. If it didn’t cost too much, the sensible thing would be to rebuild and fit a 1275. It might even increase the value of the thing. It’s typical Triumph knife and fork engineering. You only have to look at a 1977 Accord 1500 engine to see how shit these are.

Looks decent start price plus bonus points for Webasto. Pretty much what I'm looking for and ticks most of the boxes. Keeping an eye to see if it gets any bids. Might end up going with a Best Offer I suppose.

Messaged them to find out the craic. Even if I am not in a position to buy.
