Best ever real world car?

As great as E-types etc are what is the greatest ever car that is good at doing real car things whilst being nice?

Affordable, economical, practical, comfortable, nippy, easy to maintain, you get the idea.

I suggest the R8 214SEi. Ticks all of the above boxes.
I seem to think ’90’s cars are the pinnacle of this being the mix of reliable, nice to drive but not overly complicated. 405? Mk3 Cav?

What are your suggestions?

Apart from rust, electrical issues, brutal thirst and being too long to park anywhere, XJ40s are great everyday cars.

Peugeot 405 STi

Other than that, I spent a long while researching this in 2011 as I wanted to buy that very thing. Don’t think I went too far wrong with my E350CDi estate. I may not have regretted the 250 but upon seeing a 350 I would have felt regretful.

Or my old Saab 95. You could get a lot more in it with the folding rear seat and it did everything pretty well.

Apart from the lacquer peel, shonky air vents, and being too long to park anywhere, an X300 XJ6 is a great everyday car belonging to Tommy

Range Rover Classic, take 4 people in comfort anywhere.
Ignoring the rampant rust and thirst
