Bangernomics big van thread

Post by Bangernomics »

A long time ago, our NW correspondent started a search. Some say a quest............

Looking for a LWB van. I’m open to price and also suggested models. Yes I know NYE but I’m staying in cos loons everywhere. Budget up to £4-5k. Less is better.

Contact catsinthewelder if you are on autoshite. He lives by me and works for a hire van company. They look after their vans really well and sell cheap when done with them.

Crazy thing, actually called someone today about a van, he was sensible. I turned up on time, handed home the cash after taking a good test drive and took it home.

Job jobbed.

What did you end up buying then? Looking at transits in my price range they are all rotted to oblivion...

Wanted big FO van that has long MOT

Post by Bangernomics »

I bought a 60 plate Renault master dci125 LWB with a recent clutch, bottom pulley and 130k for £2750. Full MOT minor advisory. No rust whatsoever underneath. Avoid transits like the plague, mk5 were reliable, noisy and rotten. The rest are shite reliability and I have had sprinters and anything beyond 98 is a liability due to EGR as a service item and Black Death leaky injector seals.

Needs some door handles for the side and rear as they wear badly and a mirror cover. Other than missing the flat spare I didn’t get too badly bummed.

Anyone know anything about rebuilding the door handles on these? Just the side and rear are knackered. There’s a trick to opening them but I can see them ending up stuck if I don’t deal with them soon.

Had someone opened them by a screwdriver down the side of the handle in the past?

I think they’re just worn out but no idea it could be that? I’ll ping some pics at the weekend in the light.

Nice, I used to drive the older shape one of those. 120dci. Loloader. It flew, and was amazingly good on fuel. By far the best van I've ever driven.
